I'm about to install the lower intake onto some new heads. It looks like the last guy used some sealant on the intake around the coolant passages. They are a bit pitted. Truth is, most of the pitting isn't on the surface where the gasket will seal. Still, I'm concerned about a water tight fit.

Any suggestions on what I might use? I've got a fresh set of gaskets and would feel a little more comfortable with some additional assurance. I've got Toyota FIPG but I'm not certain that would be the best option. In fact it might be exactly wrong for all I know.

Here's a picture of the worst one. My question was more about *which* sealant is most appropriate. I've got black fipg on hand. I wonder if some particular RTV would be better? Ultra gray was recommended by one user here. It's almost comical how many different varieties of RTV there are.

I wouldn't combine sealant and gasket. That's just asking for issues. Just use the gasket. It should seal fine, but if it bothers you go get a couple mils machined off.
