Here in Canada we have fairly strict gun control. To buy and own a gun you must have a valid FAC(Fire arm certificate) and you must register your gun with the gov't. To get a FAC you have to take a couple hour course on gun safety. The police have access to the central gun registry, and can see if a person owns a gun before they approach a vehicle or enter a residence. If you are a convicted felon, you can not own a gun. You can even legally own a handgun or assault rifle in Canada, but it is for range use only. It can not be carried on your person, it must be in a bag or case and you can only drive to and from the range. Off duty officers are allowed to carry concealed I believe.

From post #1 I thought i read somewhere that canada had alot of so called " HUNTING ACCIDENTS ". Hand guns were banned and " HUNTING ACCIDENTS " went up.

Jersey makes it harder to get guns but the people that are shootin up the places are buying them from the gun stores. We need firearms cards then you have to apply separately for a handgun. And yet they still seem to shoot em up in Camden.

    Sonjay,

You cannot buy a gun via legitimate channels in ANY state if you are not a citizen of the USA. You cannot buy a handgun if you are not a resident of that state. There are exceptions. You can buy guns out of state, but you must have a Federal Firearms License holder handle the transfer. This certainly does not mean that legitimately obtained weapons do not eventually find their way into the hands of those with ill intentions.

Would you feel better if they were pushed out of windows instead?

IF everyhousehold had a home protection firearm, and every member of the family knew house to use it...there would be no more home invasions.

What criminal would want to go on a suicide mission to steal some tv?

After the few weeks of News headlines "This weeks tally of dead thieves reaches 300"...criminals would get the idea.

I'm all for shedding some BAD blood (I.E. some c*cksucking criminal POS), to save my families good blood.

I'd feel no remorse if I blew some a*shole trying to break into my house inhalf w/ my .20gauge.

I control my guns, I have them...and nobody else is gonna get them.

We dont need the gov't to step in take away our guns, we need our fellow citizens to step up, MAN UP, and f*cking kill some criminal as*es.

people who use guns to kill themselves are the real deal, ones who use pills dont really want to die, they just think they do at the moment...

And no matter if guns are legal or not, the criminals will get them one way or the other and all the innocent law abiding citizens are now just helpless victims

x2 and suicides have no place in gun control conversation.

People lay their heads down on the rail infront of my train...are we going to talk about "train control"?

Anyone who wants to kill themselves, I say go ahead. We shouldnt take their right to end THEIR OWN LIFE away from them.

    "LIfe Control"????"

thats exactly the point if you allow morons to have guns stupid shit will happen. How many people are killed on July 4 from people shooting into the air?

What gives you the right to take someone's life? I guess your all for vigilante justice? I mean I know your prisons are full to the max and all. But shouldn't the justice system be allowed to do its job? I understand Americas lust for guns, there are allot of crazy/dangerous people down there. I just wish those guns would stay in America. And off the streets of Canada. How many kids need to get shoot up in school before something is done?

No matter how much gun control is put into effect all of the "lil gang bangers" are going to still get the guns. So why make it harder for me and you to to defend our lives if need be. I wish we could put some law's into action and magically get all of the guns off of the "streets" and put them into the hands of respectful/responsible users. I also wish I could snap my fingers and have world peace and all of that other beauty pageant crap. In the mean time I will have my guns READY.

First off, I have a right to take someone else life if mine is in danger...its called survival, and its all a man really has.

Secondly, its not the law biding gun owners that are firing their guns in the air...what part of that dont you understand? If you take my guns away....those people who fire their guns in the air are still going to have theirs because they dont follow the laws to begin with.

Thirdly, its not a"lust for guns" ... its a RIGHT.

Fourthly, its the parents fault these kids take a gun to school and kill. PERIOD.

I'd glady take a few morons with guns legally, then having to own mine for defense illegally.

Gun control is just part of a larger issue with government. Make MORE laws instead of trying to enforce the laws already in existence. It is illegal to kill another human unless it is self defense or defense of another. Period. You don't need a second, third, forth law making it illegal to kill a human with a rifle, handgun, broken beer bottle, etc. Just fry anyone convicted of murder, use the money saved in the prison system to help enforce existing laws, and you've covered anything that the gun laws are trying to accomplish.

Let me point out that the firearm does not kill people, it is the person behind it. I can put a handgun in the street, and if no one messing with it, it will rust away or be their when the Lord returns.
The checks/paperwork for purchasing firearms are changing most times. I know for me I spend more time on the phone due to the country I was born in, (father was military).
I do believe there needs to be checks and balances, I see no issue why a law going person should not be able to purchase a firearm, but then their is the other side.
If they ban all guns, especially here in the U.S. you will be able to buy them, you will just pay more, have more criminals, and go underground to get them.
If you like to buy alot, file for a FFL, Gunsmith FFL, or a C&R FFL for the older stuff. BUT you still have alot of paperwork.

Canada has a mere fraction of inmates in prison as the US has. So who really has all the crazys? I know we have our problems, but for the most part they aren't violent crimes. And gun control will take the guns out of the hands of criminals, the criminals are buying the guns legally for fuck sakes man. Its pretty clear that you think there is nothing wrong with your gun policies. I guess what ever makes you feel safe at night?

I agree laws need to be enforced and fry anyone convicted of murder or rape. No need to fill the prisons more. At some point there needs to be a change. I guess your country just isn't ready for that change.

5 children were killed every day in gun related accidents and suicides committed with a firearm, from 1994-1998. National Injury Mortality Statistics, 1994-1998

A gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used in an unintentional shooting, than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense. Journal of Trauma, 1998

51% of the guns used in crimes by juveniles and people 18 to 24 were acquired by "straw purchasers," people who buy several guns legally through licensed dealers, then sell them to criminals, violent offenders, and kids. ATF report, Crime Gun Trace Analysis, February 1999

More Americans were killed by guns than by war in the 20th Century.

    are you insane?

criminals get the firearms on the streets where other criminals sell them...they steal them out of good law abiding folks homes during burglaries and turn around and sell them on the street

that way you cant trace the crime/ballistics back to the current possesor of the firearm

Gun control laws take guns out of law abiding citizens hands. period.

Hey now... I know plenty of liberals that understand the importance of owning a gun for self defense. Even my hippy friends in Colorado have handguns and shotguns.

Enforcement of the Law is the answer. Adding more laws is not the answer.

Im not a liberal, criminals do buy firearms legally, they have been traced back to stores who sold 10-15 hand guns at a time. There is even class action law suits in the works against Colt, and other gun companies for selling there guns to criminals. Enforcement of the law is the answer. As well as stopping the few shops that aren't following said laws. Someone that sells guns should have a pretty good background check I would think? How does one get a firearm permit? Is there any courses on gun safety? What happens to the guns that are taken off of criminals?

Oxymaroon, I thought you had had enough of this thread. Im not trying to convince anyone of anything, I can see your minds are made up. As is mine. I'm just trying to have a conversation about guns? you get pretty upset when you see things you don't like? insignificant stats are only insignificant if you don't understand them. As far as warmongering, look at Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, pretty bad how all those Americans killed in Iraq, were killed with American made guns you sold them years ago. Looks to me like your country likes its wars, whos next Canada when we turn off your lights and water? Or maybe China when they call back there trillions of dollars in loans?
