After my brief searching, I assume 3rd gen shocks, coilovers and leaf springs can not be used on a 1st Gen.

Am I correct? Even the shocks?

Thanks for your help- Kirk Out

You are correct, won't work. 2nd - 3rd gen are interchangeable, but not 1st gens...the mounting is different.

Of course, anything is possible with enough money and fabrication but it's probably not worth it.

    ^^^ yep.

With a cutoff wheel and a welder, and you can mount humvee suspension if you really wanted to...

Not sure why you would want to, though. Most people that wheel with their 2nd/turd gens hack off the stock suspension and go for aftermarket/custom work, same as us best gen guys. There's no advantage to the newer trucks, just different.

Also depends on why you're doing it. For off-roading, there are FAR superior options, especially considering the amount of custom fabrication you'd need to make the 3rd gen stuff work - you might as well get some off-road specific suspension under there.

I have no desire to put that stuff on my 1st Gen Pre-Runner. I already upgraded it with aftermarket gear.

I recently swapped-out the suspension on my 2017 TRD OR for some OME/Bilstein equipment. I'm trying to sell the stock suspension and I had an inquiry from a 1st Gen owner.

Thanks for confirming what I thought was the situation...kirk out

So a bunch of the guys on here said it couldn’t be done. But I got it done. 2003 Tacoma with the first Gen tundra struts. 3rd Gen Taco coils. Will work no extra fab.

No one said 3rd gen coils wouldn't fit, the OP was asking about the whole assembly particularly the shocks. The coils on 3rd gens are no different than the ones we use they're just a heavier spring rate.

3rd gen front shocks will not fit a 1st gen without modification. Rears maybe but I think they're longer than ours

Although it it's interesting that 1st gen Tundra shocks will work, I didn't know they had the same mounting pattern as ours

    What doesn't make sense is...why?

Valving would be different and uncomfortable as Tundra's are much heavier.

Plus it's not like you can't get the same quality shocks for a Tacoma that you can get for a Tundra.

It might very well be IF it is Free rather then buy the correct part.

Free also means ride quality is of no importance under that scenario.

That was my thought too, then I wonder, what else would someone cheap out on if they insist on installing the wrong stuff.

Would hate to find out how bad one's insurance is in the event of an accident :crapstorm:

Anyone attempt 2016 Tacoma leaf spring pack in a 2003 Tacoma? The 2003 Tacoma has a busted leaf in the pack. ??

not gonna fit as-is, unless you modified your front leaf spring hangars on the 1st gen maybe.

But you could take the leafs apart and add them into the 1st gen pack, "Frankenstein" it together so to speak. But the top leafs with the eyes would have to remain the same to fit the 1st gen.
