I guess it is the OCD in me. I usually fill my tank when I see daylight to the left of the 1/2 fuel for the same reason I change my oil at 5K miles. What if something happens and I have to go somewhere fast? Totally irrational I know but that is how my mind works.

that is why I keep my pantry stocked, if I open something I put it on my list to buy right away. I just hate to run out of things. I even keep enough oil and filters for the next TWO oil changes… irrational but it doesn’t hurt anyone

Frequently get $1.00/gallon off with my Kroger discount so I wait until nearly empty to maximize savings but I kind of do that whether I have a discount or not. Depending on that tanks MPG it's usually around 425 miles. If I can get 21 gallons in there I'm happy. And BS about cooling the fuel pump. Been doing this with all my cars for decades. 175k on my Gen2 with zero issues.

The Avalon and Tacoma I usually fill up at 1/4 tank, the Vette I fill at half tank, the vette has two 9gal tanks joined by a crossover, if the right tank sits empty for too long, the sending unit starts to corrode and get dirty.

That's interesting. I was aware of the dry sump oil system, but not the dual fuel tanks.

They are side saddle tanks, one behind the driver and passenger, joined at the top with a crossover and assorted plumbing, etc. The passenger tank empties first and after a while if you let it sit dry, the sending unit can act up. They are an absolute bitch to get to and fix.

It happens. I was about 4 when I saw the next door neighbors little girl pick up a dried dog turd and start to gnaw on it. Told her mom and she took it away.
Imagine it happens far more frequently today lol.

Yessir, directly proportional. When the wife says “I need to get shoes”, I usually drop her off, go for gas, get a wash, check the tires…….

I usually fill up near 1/4.

In a related matter, I just returned from a 3,700 mile camping trip with my Jeep TJ ... averaged 13.75 mpg. o_O
Lowest price, small town mid-Kansas at $4.34.
Highest (as expected) Ouray, CO at $5.55.

I almost took my Tacoma due to prices, but it's just not setup for some of the trails I drove.

The other reason I like to keep the tank full is ... Just peace of mind. you just drive and not even have to think about gas.
I'm sure we've all been through the 'Ehhh ... I've got 1/4 tank ... I'll just pass this gas station up and fill up at the next one ....'
And the 'next one' is way further away than you thought it would be... And the next thing you know is, the tank is down to about 1/16th of a tank and you're sweating bullets.

I live 1.8 miles from work. I fill up at Costco once every two months. It was $92.50 about a month ago. I let it go to 30 miles left.

Wife's getting an EV. She drives 10 miles.

I read thru the second page of 6 and thought...that's enough reading...lol

I've been filling at 3/4 tank and a couple of times at 1/2. When gas was closer to $5/Gallon I was going out of my way to fill at 3/4.

I'm retired from active duty USAF but work at local hospital full-time...4 miles one way/maybe 10 miles per day/50 miles per week.

My Sport is my daily driver, of course.

The longest trips I've done in my Sport is to Chincateague Island, VA and some runs to Newark, DE and of course Delaware Beaches: Rehoboth, Dewey, and Indian River.

I don't have jerry cans in my truck...have not got setup or plan to do off-roading any time soon so I'm good at the moment.

Oh yea, I ran out of gas once when I first started driving long ago & that was the last time I ever did that.

You fill your tank at half because you like wasting money? Mathematically speaking, that statement is incorrect.

Being OCD has nothing to do with being logical. I know that changing the oil early is a waste of money but in my mind I can’t be late or let the things that can wait slide. If I am not 30 minutes early for work I am late in my mind.

The only reason I have that I fill above 1/4 is that most pumps stop the transaction at $100 and you usually have to walk into the store to have to re-authorize the next $20-$30 for a fill-up.

    A few.
Vehicles have low fuel lights to keep people from running out of gas. There is a reserve built in. On tacomas its around 3 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on
