So I have the inner fenders. But getting them installed probably won’t be until winter. Do any of ya guys know if there’s room to fit the UMP air filter with stock inners?
With the long trip in Sept and open fenders worried about air filter clogging up daily.
    Would rather have the UMP

I had my UMP on stock inners after deleting ABS. Made a plate that bolted on the old ABS mount for the UMP mount.

You could also do something like this until later. Cheap, easy.

Has anyone had issues with their locknuts coming loose on the inner fenders and them making noises. I’ve had to go back through twice now and re tighten everything because I start hearing creaking noises when articulating on turns or whatever. Maybe I just ought to get new locknuts.

I’ve got some noise going on myself after a little fun yesterday. Sounds like a loose inner as it’s right on the A pillar. So most likely yes.

The whole time I was installing I kept thinking about making a backing/sandwich plate for them. Then never did. That’s some real thin material we are bolting these heavy inners to so IMO it could use a little more reinforcement.

Spent a bunch of time this weekend working on dialing this thing in. I couldn’t be more impressed. This thing parties. I’m still a little unsure behind the wheel so I didn’t send it too hard. But we had a damn good time.

If you’re on the fence about any of these parts, get off and cross to the other side. It’s all worth it.

Was cleaning up the garage and totally forgot that Harry gave this badge to me. Now the install is officially done.

I’ve yet to have an issue but you can swap the nylock nuts out for top locks. The only thing to be aware of is the top locks and stainless bolts don’t play nice so if you ever take everything apart you will need to replace both the nuts and bolts

Thank you. I'll see if I can make it work on my 3rd gen. If not then the cowl mod.

    Thanks,

I think like 906taco said, it might just be because it’s bolted to material that is so thin. I’ve never had issues with nylon nuts backing out in the past so not sure. I’ll just keep tightening them for now once they start making noises. It just takes a couple minutes so it’s not a big deal. Then might switch the nuts out if they keep coming loose. I’ve noticed it’s mainly the 5 bolts on each side that attach closest the cab. The rest all stay pretty tight.

I checked mine last night and my drivers side loosened up substantially. Passenger wasn't as bad. I ended up ordering nut plates to make some backing plates, that way I can actually loctite them in this time. In my opinion the backing plates will also strengthen that area and make install/removal easier. Passenger side isn't bad, but the drivers side kinda sucks when it comes to bolting them on.

My guess is the issue you guys are having is because you are reusing the nylock nuts. I’ve never had a problem with any of the ones I’ve installed because I mock everything up with standard nuts. Then everything is taken apart, painted and final assembly is done with brand new nylocs. The 1/4” 20 nylocks only have a thin amount of locking surface and when used multiple times they loose some of the locking capabilities. Moving forward we will start including a set of mock up nuts to prevent having to use the nylocks for mock up.

Out of curiosity, where is the UMP drawing air from in that picture? Just ambient engine bay?

Yes. According to data logs though, IAT's are pretty reasonable.

I can confirm they stay about 10 degrees above ambient
