Since you are going through the effort of disassembly and doing a solid color have you considered duracoat or alumahyde?

I have not. Is that something you can buy as a kit and do it yourself, or do you have to ship yours parts to someone to do it? I thought of using Brownells Alumahyde.

The original duracoat ( I think that’s the name of it I’ll look it up) is a 2 part system and you sprayed with compressed air and a pad it gun. They came out with self contained aerosol kits though so no special tooling needed you just spray like you would Rustoleum. I’ll try and find it

    Here’s an example
    https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1841197060?pid=813706

I believe they make a large amount of colors this is just an example. The sprayer is a “Preval” sprayer you can usually find at a decent auto parts store that sells paint or get it in a kit like this.

    or this from Duracoat

I never did like duracoat…always seemed way too thick for gun paint

I’ve never used it. It does look thicker but having never used it I’ve never milled it to test thickness. It strikes me like an epoxy from what I can tell it’s very durable, hence the name I guess. You can always control your spraying with lighter coats as well I guess. Have you dealt with a gun coated in it? As much as you deal with them I’d think maybe so and your first hand knowledge is, well, more than I have with it

I think it chips too easy for the price too. I rather just sea sponge over a base of krylon.

Anything actually worth doing I rather use Gun cote or cerakote. Or just leave it alone.

I’ve dealt with a few guns sprayed with it…and it’s difficult to strip off if you change your mind

I’ll stick to krylon or rust oleum…I’m not paying cerakote prices

If you have a shop oven it’s not hard to do it yourself. As a matter of fact, they have an air cure option of cerakote now as well.

I'm going to be swapping out the quad rail for a lighter mlok so I decided to paint the quad rail earth brown. Turn out pretty good kind of like the RIS II I had years ago. I ended up painting 3 mags today the same color.

Here's the main squeeze. Also a reminder that mags are cheap and available at this point in time; act accordingly.

Its been a LONG time that Ive run my 300blk SBR and havent changed a thing about it. Well i finally decided to change that. Now mind you, this thing was built before M-LOK was a thing and keymod was still fairly new.
This is how it was. Note that it had a Magpul UBR stock on and was in the process of removing before i took the picture (hence it looking funky stock wise).

The main change was removing the UBR and going to a CTR. The UBR was nice, but its a heavy stock (Gen 1 mind you). But also swapped in a Radian Raptor SL charging handle (from a mil-spec one) and a BCM QD end plate. And lastly just getting rid of the AFG and light. And also the pic rails they mounted to.

Just for kicks I took some measurements. The UBR set up (with JP silent captured spring) was a good 2lb 2oz. The new CTR (with a new JP silent spring gen2) came in at 1lb 4oz. So almost a pound right there. The light, afg, and rails were another 10oz. So quite a good amount of weight removed. Last thing to do is to probably swap the rail to something else. The texturing on the rail is a bit rough for my liking to be able to hold on to.

And apparently i need to shoot it more. Who knows how long this dude has been (dead) in there. Was a bit of a surprise when i took the can off!

New muzzle brake. For $20 it was worth trying out. Still looking to eventually replace the Magpul stock with a B5 SOPMOD and add a flashlight
