So a few years ago my truck, 2008 double cab trd or with auto, suffered from torque converter shudder. I had a shop do a tranny flush and it did not help. At the time it was suggested I put in dr tranny shudder fix as a last ditch effort. I did this and the shudder went away within a mile but ever since the tranny has had a whine and every now and again shifts funny. I’ve grown tired of it sounding this way and am looking at gearing the truck and locking the front but I want to get the tranny dialed first. I’ve been told to just drive it till it breaks but I’m not a fan of that.

I’m really hoping that someone has experience in this and has either a solution or can point me in the right direction for getting a new tranny. I’d love to have the 6spd but prob more work than it’s worth. I have found used a750f trannys on CL for $500ish but usually not the right year and am not sure of the actual difference. Should I just bite the bullet and drop the cash for a reman? Thanks.

Can you verify that the shop did the proper level check procedure? These transmissions act funny if the fluid level isn't dead on.
If you aren't sure I'd recommend doing that first. How many miles on the truck when you did the flush? And was it the first time the tranny had been serviced?

I read through a bunch and was getting overwhelmed. I’m going to guess it was around 150k. I believe it was the first service. I’m not sure the level check was done properly. The shop was kinda a joke. I had to add the additive myself and the level seemed fine when I did that. The truck now has 168k. No longer a daily driver.

Only a year and a half later I finally changed the tranny filter and fluid. Made sure to use genuine Toyota and it now acts like a brand new truck.

I think my saving grace is I just don’t drive the truck very often. Prob put 3k or less a year in it. Seems to be fine. I’ll drive it a bit then drain and fill. Think my next step will be gears now.
