I want to install this on the left side panel. Right now I just have my garage door opener Velcroed onto the panel. I know I can wire this momentary switch to my opener. But, how do I make it light up? And, is there enough room behind that panel on the left to stuff the remote?

Sub'd. Looks like an interesting project.

I’m curious if the remote will have less signal if it’s shoved up behind the dash somewhere. On my sun visor the range is plenty so I think it would still be acceptable even if it was somewhat reduced.

Yeah. I thought about that. But, it really wouldn’t be too far from where it currently is attached. My only other thought was changing the battery of it dies. Of course those batteries last a pretty long time.

Instead of wiring it to your high beam, run a hot +12v thru the garage door switch, then to the relay coil, and a switched +12v to the switch light. That way the garage door switch will trigger the remote with the ignition on or off. If your switch is already momentary contact, you can skip the timer circuit and just use a cheap 12v relay.

FWIW, I have my actual garage door opener taped inside a small, cheap food container (mostly weatherproof) and stuffed behind the right headlight. The range is a bit more than when I had the actual remote clipped to the visor

I'm guessing not. I keep my opener inside the dash pocket on the left, I can still open my door from 200 yards out.

I'd like to see how this is done, but I was hoping for a programmable transmitter, like what the rear view mirrors have.

So, then would the ones I circled go to the garage remote?

Well, then that would be easy. Gonna be a bit pricey to do, however. The switch was $20 and the harness is $25. Not sure if $45 is worth it, but I think it would be cool to have a "Homelink" that looks factory would be pretty nice.

Yeah my Tundra has the homelink style rear view mirror, so I never had to worry about that

Also, I can't find where I can purchase one of those harnesses. Is there a link somewhere that I missed?

I was lucky in that my garage door opener was powered by a 12 volt battery so I installed it behind the dash and wired up the switch you posted. The ones that have a 3 volt battery can be wired in as well but they require a voltage converter.

If you have a built in garage opener switch, be mindful of not leaving documents in your truck with your home address. If bad people manage to steal your truck, they also will have access to your garage until you change the code.

I don't think mine is 12V. So, not sure what to do. I plan to get the harness as seen above in the thread. But, I don't know if the two wires I circled can just go right to the garage door opener or if there needs to be something in between. I feel like there needs to be something else or I'll be sending 12V to the opener instead of the 3V. Probably burn up the remote's PCB?

I bought one of these from ebay in black. Cut a hole in my headliner and put it up there. I am powering it with a 9v battery so I didn't even mess with the factory wiring in the truck. The one I bought only has two wires coming out of the back.
