Looks like it’s a 2020 issue. I have a 2020 OR MT and my elapsed time has never worked.

It’s fitting... it was built in 2020!

Yep, mine still not working and everyone I have talked to at Toyota doesn’t know when it will be fixed. Toyota doesn’t care

about an hour or two ago I called the nearest dealer, Durango Motor Company, who has seen this truck 8-10 times for this and other electrical problems and I was told that since I had 46K miles on my 2020 Tacoma that I would have to pay for the tech to check the vehicle out and for this update if needed. They said it didn't matter if I had the problem since the truck was new. I called Toyota cares and they said the same thing, so it as been elevated to a senior adviser, maybe I will get this fixed.

So even though Toyota knew of this problem from day 1 or 2 of me owning, Aug 21, 2020, the truck and it was at the dealer multiple times for them to try and fix it, the dealer even ordered a new head unit for the truck and was turned down saying it was a software problem. It took Toyota 2 years to come up with a fix for the problem and I guess they think its my fault for driving the truck. Maybe they think it should just sit in a garage until the warranty period is over.

I find it bad company policy that they just will not take care of the problem, since they knew about for 2 years this month and they couldn't fix it.

Seems like if you have documentation that says you attempted to have the problem repaired before your warranty they should fix it. I would try another dealership. The first dealership I went to (Fred Anderson Toyota in Charleston) acted like I was the problem for trying to use the feature Toyota built into my vehicle so I went to another one and got the problem repaired on the first try.

Agree, I have the case number and even "Toyota Cares" right now, thinks I should pay it.

Got a call from Toyota Cares today. They said they need to check with the dealer if they had the T-SB and could do the work and also if they have records of this problem from before. I said that would be OK and if they didn't have any records, I have recorded the conversation with them from 2020. So lets see if I hear from them this week or next week

This would have to be covered as long as the defect is documented before the warranty expires. Otherwise any manufacturer could entirely escape warranty by simply claiming no fix is available until everyones warranty has expired.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but the Elapsed Time on my '17 4Runny does and does not work. I see it change sometimes, other times I do not see it change. Honestly don't care if it does or not since I don't know what it's even counting & the car has no issues and still gets me where I want to go.

its been 2 weeks since this conversation with Toyota Cares. Last week I got a call from Toyota Cares to see if the dealer had reached out to me, nope. About 1-2 hours after that the dealer called to set up an appointment, when I said I wouldn't pay for this, they said they couldn't set up the appointment and would talk to their boss. 30-45 minutes later I got another call, this guy asked me about three vehicles I have never owned and had no idea why he was calling me. 2 days ago, After calling them on Wednesday of last week, I talked to senior adviser at Toyota Cares again and he told me that he was dealing with the Manager at Durango Toyota and I would hear from him, still no call, so I will give him the rest of today and then tomorrow I will call Toyota Cares again. They said they would have to redo a check to see if and why the system wasn't working right. I told the Toyota Care adviser that they can see its not working when I pull into the dealership, because it will read 0 after an hour drive. This time in our conversation, I also told them they are not allowed to touch any other part of the truck or its functions, only the radio and this problem.

so here we are into Sept. Toyota Care advisor said that Durango Toyota would be calling me, well they did and they still expect me to pay for this. I talk with the advisor again and was told the GM of Durango Toyota would contact me, that was two weeks ago, still waiting.

I don’t think Toyota wants to fix this problem.

How long could it take for the dealer tech to hook up the computer and install the TSB?

Dealer just fixed mine. I described the issue and referred them to T-SB-0053-22. They flashed the cluster ECU and covered it under 3Y/36kMI warranty no problem. Works like it's supposed to now.

Last week I called Toyota Cares about this again, but this time I got someone who cares. The guy at Toyota Cares called the dealer and asked about price ($185.00 to update) and then called me back and said Toyota would cover it. I called the dealer and talk to the guy Toyota Care said to talk to and this morning I had an appointment and they did the update. It only took 2 years & 5 months since first reported to Toyota or 5 months after Toyota came out with the fix to get Toyota to agree and fix it.

it fixed the problem. Something else I noticed today, was that my distance to empty jumped up to 390 miles on a full tank, never saw that before, normally its like 270 miles.
