Need help from Audio freaks here!

The Alpine pocket amp is smaller, so I don’t think that’d be a problem. Securing it is tough. I think the other person wrapped zip ties around the amp and the brace. But I’m going off a post I saw a year or more ago, don’t quote me.

The Metra harness can be made cheaper if you will solder, for sure. The part #s I posted are from my quick search (make and female plugs), so that is a quick shot too. There’s a few posts in the A/V sections about making T-harnesses, one should have what you need.

 

The only problem I see with this is that the vehicle side harness is not fully populated, it’s made for replacing the radio. The speaker in/out connectors would work fine, but it would be preferable to also grab an amplifier turn on and pass everything else through.

I wish I had taken a better picture of the harness I made with the AX-DSP-TY3 harness. You used to be able to buy just the harness but I’m finding that it’s discontinued now for some reason.

I may pull the radio out real quick so I can get decent pictures of exactly how I made that harness. It won’t be until the weekend at least though.

There is a picture of the back of my radio in the integration build thread I wrote. He could compare his to that and verify which set of connectors he actually needs. Making a T-Harness is really easy if you have the right pigtails, but “add a DSP” harness makes it easier.

 

i used to solder all of my radio harnesses. then i happened across some of technical documentation. solder whiskers are terrifying. also got some education a while back on proper crimping and it's mechanical properties, which i feel strongly relate to the harsh automotive environment.

i mostly crimp now and solder when i absolutely must. though of note, i've never had a failure of either method.

 

Good info in that video, thanks for posting. Solder whiskers/dendrites are a big problem with ROHS compliant soldering, not such a big deal with old-school lead solder.

 

Just and FYI, I ran my own new speaker wire from my amp but tapped into the speaker outs for the signal. I also used a speaker out as a remote turn on since my LC7I can use it. Here is the Diadram for wiring that worked for my ‘21 non JBL
