Is there a thread for GreenWorksPro tools?

Specifically the 80V stuff is excellent.

 

Sell me on spending ~$500 on an EGO over spending the same amount on a gas or other brand mower. Here is the EGO Benchmark EGO LM2021 POWER+ 56-Volt Brushless 20-in $499. Make/Models I am considering:

• Makita 18-Volt X2 (36V) LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 21 in $499
• DEWALT 20V MAX 21.5 in. $499
• Ryobi ONE+ 18V HP Brushless Whisper Series 20" $549
• Green Machine 62V Cordless 3-in-1 High Wheel $329
• Greenworks Pro 80-volt Max Brushless 21-in $549
  
• STIHL RMA 460 19 in. 36 V $533.99
  
• Milwaukee FUEL is not offered as a bare tool and requires two batteries to operate

Given the above choices, I would normally lean towards the Ryobi because of the battery platform I already have but the ONE+ HP I already bought is not what I expected. All that being said... I think I might lean towards the STIHL for the price and quality of build. Lets hear some opinions.

You've got a ton of experience regarding gas powered tools, so I know you'll naturally recommend a quality used tool for a DIY rebuild.

However, maybe you can convince @Toyko Joe for, or against, any new gas powered mowers.

 

I went electric strictly due to convenience; much less maintenance.

 

Just an ebike DIY guy for 10+ years OPINION: Honestly I would not get a real power outdoor tool running under 72V.

Yes I know DeWalt and Milwaukee and other have some excellent smaller tools.

 

What sold me on it is the time savings and lack of carbureted fuckery. I’ve had my ego for almost 3 summers now, have spent zero time on maintenance. No oil changes, no cables to adjust, no draining the carb at the end of the season. None.

Every time it’s less than 30 seconds from pulling the mower out of under the stairs, popping a battery in, and starting to mow.

I got the weed whacker too, and not only is it ballsy AF, the self loading string feature is really slick. Loaded many a reel on the old echo trimmers growing up, this is far less painful. Slip the string in, hold the button, it sucks it up onto the reel and you’re back to work.

My main concerns long term are battery degradation and the sheer amount of plastic the thing is.

 

I don't even start my gas stuff anymore. Sad.

 

You never mentioned having EGO anything

 

I still can't wrap my brain around spending $500+ on any mower...

 

My ZT Gravely was over $4000.

 

My Toro TimeCutter 42" zeroturn was under $3K two years ago?

*true-ish* I think the only Milwaukee tool I have spent more than $200 $300 on is the M18 chainsaw which has seen its annual 3 uses already. My Milwaukee tools get used on average 1time a week.

This exactly. My first tool was the blower. I wanted something quiet for blowing off cars early in the morning after a car wash (this saves a pile full of time on the drying and clears pockets of water that lead to streaking). I was shocked that is was more powerful than my Dad's echo backpack blower. Battery lasted a long time too if used appropriately.

I have transitioned now to EGO trimmer, hedge cutter, blowers, utility chain saw. I absolutely love them. As a long time petrol head and electric tool skeptic, I have made the transition and I'm not going back.

Although my Honda mower starts on first pull every time for the last 10 years. Only had one little issue when I didn't use it for a year. Since then its been impeccable.
