That is a very long story, hard for me to tell, and don't want to hijack... but involves fully loaded truck for 5 day beach camping trip driving off a sand cliff at low tide, created by a tidal river, at nearly full speed in 4 low... 4th gear... Was around 3-4ft tall. Was like a collision with the sand bottom. Both suspensions bottomed out, tires were aired down to about 8-10 psi, skid plates had allllll the paint scraped off, bent front sheet metal, UCA imprints on the inner fender, frame flexed/bent enough that the camper shell broke out the back window of the cab and the glass fell on my kids, beside left a good size dent in the cab, rear frame area bent badly around the airbags I had at the time, rear axle bent into a smiley face, camper shell broke its mounts and almost fell off, all three camper shell doors opened and the contents spilled on the beach... it was bad. Fortunately, the truck stayed running and the first thing I did was gun it up the beach before it sank in the sand and got out of the low tide range... before turning off and realizing all that happened. Still did the camping trip, it was drivable after some work right there on the beach to get to the camp spot... and was able to drive it home to AZ. Got the major stuff fixed back in 2019 before pandemic, and still not got it all fixed, still working on the rear axle replacement, and other things related to it. But all in all... I have to say a bunch of stuff went right following the one single thing that went wrong... me not paying attention on a 300yard wide beach driving full speed ahead...I got really lucky all things considered.

    F4CF61BE-B073-44EF-B103-5D4A2FBB64BE.jpg

Here is a picture of the 1” deep impact the bedside made in the cab due to frame flex and bend. I’m not fixing this one on purpose as a battle scar.

I don't know how to rotate that pic which is straight from my phone... it showed up straight on the upload and on phone but crooked on the post. Oh well.

    Ok enough with this hijack

It is all based on hours it takes to get done... and I had a friendly face that wanted to help, and I also allowed them to have a 1 week gap in the middle of my job in order for them to do a very high priority very high dollar job that needed all the equipment and then come back to mine in the 'off' time... so how much I spent and how long it took is irrelevant to you. If they can get it all lasered up, understand what they want to bend back to alignment, and if there is good purchase to do so then it can be done pretty quickly... but hours and hours of trying different things only to have them not work as intended can get costly. quotes, or more likely just talking to someone in the industry and hearing out their opinions and thoughts is probably where you need to be going. I admit mine was a special case, not everyone is going to be there while the chains and hydraulics are working bending the frame back, helping and suggesting and defining 'good enough'...

Really glad you're OK though - trucks can be fixed or parts can be swapped into new trucks (as tough as it is to eat the cost or spend the hours working on it).

As they say, when things go wrong in a hurry, you could die, or worse, wreck your truck. Good luck getting it sorted.

Ha ha. Loud doesn’t bother me too much. However, I know it probably is something I’m gonna want to dial down at some point. I think this will be what I’m looking for. As far as subs go. I’ve been looking into the OEM Audio Plus setup for our trucks. It is a pretty cool kit that is made specifically for our trucks. Whether I keep this truck or get a different one, I’ll probably end up with that kit.

If you have the JBL setup already, there are a lot better/cheaper ways to go! I have a full set of speakers I removed from the truck before selling I need to get rid of. Infinity Reference in all doors, and RF P3 sub. Have sub comparison pics in one of the threads here

I don’t have the jbl. I know in the 3rd gens if you have a manual you can’t get the jbl in that either. I don’t know if it’s the same for 2nd gens…..either way, I don’t have it. I like that oem audio setup because it’s all plug and play. I’m not an audio guy by any means so if I went somewhere to get me setup, I wouldn’t really know what to get .

I normally use Cruthfield. Just put in your truck and they'll tell you what works. All the speakers you order there will come with adapters so they are plug n play. And headunits will come with harness adapters usually. The Joying Android HU is amazing and completely plug n play.

    The JBL stuff sucks.

It was my BIGGEST displeasure (not to mention expensive) to ever have to work on the OEM audio when trying to get it all rectified with aftermarket equipment just to fix one simple but stupid issue I had. I wound up having to replace everything. Subwoofer, amp, headunit, speakers, and the wiring associated with all of it to do it right and successfully.

Apparently if you have an internal circuitry failure of your amp, you lose volume control of the headunit and it gets stuck on the volume you left it at, so JBL from Toyota gets the middle finger from me. Never again am I making that mistake.

Sadly the 2.5 gen Tacoma JBL system is MILES ahead of the Tundra 2.5 gen JBL system. For the Tacoma I just replaced the all the speakers and HU, it made a huge difference. Enough that I didn't even want to replace the amp.

My jbl system pisses me off. If I play a full cd then switch to bluetooth the bass hits insane, took me a few years to figure out that little trick. It stays like that unless my battery gets disconnected. Randomly my head unit has been getting phantom taps on the screen which is annoying but not a big deal. I tried an aftermarket radio but it was a nightmare so I gave up and went back to stock for now. I am sure eventually I will be forced to upgrade when the amp or hu take a shit.

These audio setups were attempted to be built as all in one style setup. You can't use one piece of equipment without the other and if you do, certain aspects of the setup are lost. They have only become worse now where the stereo drives the HVAC and other items as well now too. It's so annoying.

You definitely are going to need to replace it all. It's going to be pricey brother. I'm sorry to say.

The entune units of that time sucked. I regret ever going JBL. I was so dead set on it back in the day because I didn't want to mess with it either. What a mistake that was.

Issues with changing head units or keeping it and changing out other components then inevitably having issues is why the oem audio plus stuff is an atttactive idea. It’s made to supplement the oem system. I totally understand the price is a bit much. But remember, I like safe dependable mods. :)
