I would call another dealership and see when they could look at it and take it to them. I don't believe that I would want to take it back to that dealership. Service after the sale is as important as the actual sale to me and I would just do my service work elsewhere. I had a similar situation with mine a few months back , I could hear a knocking noise at certain MPH and it was driving me crazy! Called the service department and they told me to bring it on up and they would take a look, no appointment necessary. It was simply a bolt or two that had not been tightened properly and fallen out of my mudflap and it was vibrating / knocking and I couldn't figure what it was. I know that's not the same as your issue but a slight difference in how the service department reacted. If it's knocking from the engine, I am not driving around for weeks waiting on those guys to give me an appointment. The truck is brand new if it gets worse and it is something major they will probably try blame you for not bringing it in for warranty work. I wish you the best and hope you get it worked out!

I called Toyota and they are calling back tomorrow, hoping Toyota pulls through.

Yes. I'm not going be driving it anymore, just to the dealer tomorrow, unless Toyota wants it told to them. They are only about 3 - 4 miles from me.

Take it to another dealer . Don’t make yourself crazy . Let them give you a loaner and they will fix it.
It’s under warranty . The 2.7 motor is usually bullet proof and a well proven motor . But nothings perfect all the time . That’s what warranties are for . A good dealer will do the right thing and you will be fine . Even if it is the motor it can be swapped out easier than you think.

A motor swap with the right tooling and experience doesn't even take an entire shift, especially with all the extra space in the engine bay from the 2.7.

    Absolutely
Most people loose it when they hear a motor has to come out and in reality if you have the right area and the proper tools and lift it’s piece of cake

What state are you in? I haven’t seen a state that doesn’t even allow the dealer to attempt to fix a vehicle at least once before deeming a new vehicle a lemon. I’ve enforced a lemon law before and it was a long drawn out ordeal. I ended up coming out ahead but it was a bear.
My suggestion: make an appt with a dealer. Drive that truck as much as you can until your appt. Don’t rev the shit out of it but drive it hard. If it blows up, you get a new engine. If it doesn’t blow up, it’ll be louder and the tech can properly diagnose with a scheduled slot in his day and isn’t laying under the truck in the middle of the service check-in listening to an engine. Let the system run its course but drive the truck!

    1) The possibility of having to buy back the truck.
    2) Warranty work is an all around pain in the ass for dealerships.

That kinda sounds like it could be a torque converter or a loose flywheel or a pulley . It doesn’t sound like a rod bearing to me
What do others think that have worked on cars ?

MA. 3 attempts or 15 business days. If the car is out of service for 15 business days then it is consider a lemon.

Usually a rod bearing has a deeper ominous knock

Think this made be the problem? 2 Mechanic friends (Real mechanic that build and fix cars) both said most-likely engine mechanical failure.

Doesn't matter. Have Toyota diagnose it not anyone else. It needs to be logged by the dealer. Don't try and fix anything yourself or by any other mechanic.

Did you buy it used? You mentioned it being 3 or 4 months old but trying to evoke a 15 day lemon law?

It is mostly coming from rear bottom of the engine. I was thinking flywheel or Trans Torque converter to. The transmission shifts hard in reverse from drive sometime and start shuttering sometime at 2.5 RPMs.

Also, the sound is much louder and getting louder in person, especially in quieter places. Multiply the video sound of the knock by like 4-6 plus.

    Flat warranty rate vs hourly...
    OEMs don't allot enough time.
Guarantee it'd be a different tune if he was out of warranty.
