What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

You have to start somewhere although once you start, you never finish. There are so many possibilities.

 

Used it as it's intended, hauling a load to the dump

 

Bakflip X4S arrived yesterday and I installed it early this morning while it was still somewhat cool outside. I used the thinner gasket on the front bed rail and the X4S sits almost perfectly flush. It's so nice to be able to utilize the bed and store stuff securely while running errands. I do notice the slight weight increase when driving, but it's worth it. Also, the rubber strips have flattened out nicely in the 108 degree heat.

Definitely one of my favorite mods so far along with the power tailgate lock.

I have been wanting to do this but hesitant for this reason. What did you use to remove the adhesive? I have read mixed feedback on using something like Goo-Off safely and not damaging the paint.

 

Finally got my TRD skid plate clone installed. What a PITA! You'd think it would be an easy job. I was figuring 45 minutes. Nope! I believe I was finally done in about 2 hours. This of you who have done this by yourself...kudos to you! I had a hell of a time getting the bolts to line up and thread in. I tried the floor jack method, still couldn't get it lined up and the bolts started. Fortunately, my dad just happen to stop by. With his help we got it done. Also, I think the plate was a little too flat (maybe during shipping), because I had to really flex the thing to get the rear bolts up. Oh well. It's there now. All torqued to spec. Hopefully I never have to take it off. If I do...I'm selling it because I'd rather buy something else that fits better. I also noticed that the plate slightly hits the bolt for the recovery hook on the passenger side. Not sure why.

 

I ordered a VFTuner kit and a YotaWerx tune.

Swapped out the front OME coilovers with Bilstein 6112’s. Was sitting pretty “Bro” when I first dropped it but whipping around hitting all the bumps and potholes it settled nicely!

 

I just laid under the truck and used my legs to hold it up in place

 

Lol that's what I did first time. Second time used a block in back for support, then lifted front of skid with hands and started the bolts.

 

The trick is to start at the back pair, then the middle and front.

 

Goo-gone and then acetone. Finally compounded and polished the area by hand. Took atleast 30 minutes a side maybe more, zero paint damage..

All while out in the hot Florida sun.

 

Could be that’s what genuine Toyota gets you, although the money you saved was probably pretty sweet.

IIRC you’ll have to remove it for the front wheel drive component maintenance.

 

I know. I know. I should have gone with genuine OEM. I did get it for about half the cost of the OEM one though. We'll see how it holds up.

 

I did this with mine and found hitting the whole thing with a heat gun first helped. I didn’t have much residue to deal with once it came off. Then Goo Gone Automotive and microfiber, and a quick rinse after.

Those 6112s look different. Are they new models? What settings do all those ring clips give?

 

They’re the new 11 position, same overall height just more adjustment.
