They would not give me paperwork. They only wanted to give me an appointment for about a month out, but wanted me to leave the truck there if I wanted. They told me they would not be able to get to it for about a month. I wanted dated documentation of drop off that day, they did not want to do that. Then I called Toyota.

Yes, I no it is technically not service and the car has to be left there, but they are require to give me dated documentation that I left the vehicle there. They did not want to do that because of the lemon law starts at that date and time.

Too Long did not read. Recommend you take the truck to a dealer service, “officially.” This starts you a “record”. You may have to go through several dealers. Also read through the “lemon laws” in your state. This will give you some guidance. Sorry going through channels can be frustrating. Good Luck.

I thought about that, but I think it is going to end up a lemon and I believe it is the dealer that sold it to me and made money responsibility to fix it or at least try. Basically, it is their problem now. If Toyota wants to take it to another deanship they can but I am not going out of my way to do at this point :)

I know the Lemon laws in my state. Not bouncing around dealerships, the one that sold it can fix.

As everyone is saying, it could be anything. Take it to the dealer and leave it for service. Stop wasting brain power on this. Your making a problem out of something that could be a very small issue .

Most-likely a big or at-least medium issue. It will be going in once Toyota calls me back today.

Sell it off, trust me you are going to have problems, unless you get lucky and got a tech that actually cares about quality over speed. Major repairs like engine rebuilds and replacement usually end up having other issues do to poor re-assembly.

Anytime a dealer does not want to give any kind of documentation it’s definitely a red flag. I would definitely start a relationship with a different dealer if that’s possible in your area. I’m glad you called Toyota. I hope everything works out for you, I’m sure it will.

I get your frustration at being told to leave it for a month. My prior vehicle was a German SUV diesel that was close to out of emissions warranty. I made an appointment and they said it will be a week or longer before it gets looked at. I said, “then why am I making an appointment?”
Answer was that the service department is too busy with people keeping there cars running rather than trading due to new vehicle costs and lack of availability.
I asked for a loaner and waited for it to be fixed.
I understand being upset when some wrench gives attitude instead of just acknowledging he heard the noise.
my unsolicited advice to you is accept a loaner at no charge and make them repair your new truck.

Wow, your state has teeth in their lemon law.

Do you have another dealer relatively close?
What dealer is this? Sure sounds like they are trying to avoid the lemon law.

Their are other dealerships, but this one is where I purchased it and they have acknowledged hearing hearing sound. I think the tech just does not want to deal with it. Looks like they prefer the cash jobs vs the warranty work.

dude, some dealerships just suck or are overwhelmed right now. you can keep dealing with this shit dealer, or try somewhere else. there are a couple toyota dealerships in my area that I will never go to. and one I would trust with anything.

I have only been able to find one other video of a 2.7 4 cylinder making that noise. My truck did not do it until a few days ago. People are saying injector cleaning cycle, but I only can find info that tech is on the v6 and not the 2.7 4 cylinder.

Here in FL it's 3 attempts or 15 calendar days out of service, and the calendar days don't have to be consecutive. I started the process on a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee once it hit a total of 15 calendar days in the shop. Sent the official notification of the defect to the manufacturer with a copy to the state as required. Miraculously, shortly after Chrysler got the notification, the car was diagnosed with a bad cylinder head, the replacement head showed up at the dealer, and the car was fixed a couple of days later.

OP, as others have said it is super important to get your complaint on an actual work order so it's in the system. That starts your lemon law clock ticking. If it's not documented in your service record, it didn't happen.
