No basements here… unless you really like swimming (high water table).

    Goodmorning crew.
I looked at the daily schedule for work and they don't have me assigned anything today. Darn
We've got a basement and about 10 years ago updated it some. Had a egress window put in which I think might be a requirement for bedroom. Pretty sure previous owners had the basement set up for complete living quarters with sink, stove refrigerator etc. I put new counters and cabinets in but never cut a hole for the sink. Two sided fireplace down there too.
    Morning beat down time.

Basements are cool, literally, but if it takes me living where they have snow I'm out! My bloods done thinned out. 62 degrees and breezy I'm like wait I definitely need a sweatshirt.

When we had our home built (a modular colonial), I spec'd the foundation walls at 9' instead of the conventional 8'. Also put 1000' of radiant pex in the floor, over top of 2" blue XPS just in case we ever decide to turn it into living space. Been 7yrs, haven't done anything with the radiant yet, but it's a walkout basement and I adore it. Great workshop, just no welding, plasma cutting, running equipment down there (gas/diesel).

It's a mess right now, unfortunately.

Edit: In order to have a patio area AND a walkout, I needed a retaining wall on one side to hold up the dirt for the patio. That wall is 8' high and 20' long I believe. I'd love to extend it by another 10-20', pour another wall on the other side, then put a roof over it and a garage door. At least that way I could weld and plasma out there with the basement doors shut...

It’d be interesting to see what savings you’d get if you got that pex up and going!

It's crazy what concrete work cost. When we bought our house 17 years ago we had the back patio slab, two squares in front of two car garage and two small sidewalk replaced. That cost a little over seven thousand dollars and the other bid was twice that.
My advice if your younger; make that pipedream a reality and have time to enjoy it...get it paid for.
I'm 55 in a few days and now the prospect of having everything paid for in a few years looks much better than a second mortgage to build a dream workshop.

I bought one of those upright 24 gallon air compressors from Tractor Supply 12 years ago, I think it was around $200 then. It's been good to me, only complaint about it is when it's cold it won't start.....until yesterday. I started painting the trailer and it was constantly running. It was about 90 degrees in the shade. It ran for about 30 minutes and quit. I let it cool off and tried it again, no go.

I had to break out my only other option, the pancake compressor I bought at an auction about 10 years ago for $10. It ran non stop too but worked okay.

I have pretty much identical pancake compressor but Craftsman branded, came with a small nail gun.
60 gallon 5hp Coleman (I think) brand compressor still going after 20 years.

    Re: Poll.
I got a basement and it's finished. We had to do a little renovating of it and the bathroom down there needs updating badly. You can see some pics of it on my house thread in my signature.

Basement is handy. Spare bedroom, weight/exercise machine, my room for reloading ammo and firearm storage, the laundry room, bathroom and shower. Some of the overall work for finishing looks a little cobbled together but it's still home.
Speaking of firearm storage; I see the 64 gun safe remaining in the basement indefinitely. It was difficult enough getting it down there with gravity on our side.

I'd like to have a 60 gallon but can't justify the price difference no more than I use it. Really all I do is air up tires and use the air wrench from time to time. Yesterday was the 1st time I've sprayed anything with an air gun since redoing this 1937 John Deere B tractor for a friend in 2009 when I still worked out of dads shop.

It took some digging through old emails but I found the crappy picture I took of my basement floor plan when the builder had the plans out on the counter before we bought it. :p
