    Hey everyone,
bit of a nooby question here.
I recently acquired a 2022 Toyota Tacoma with a 6 foot box. The dealer told me lifting it (either full suspension kit or levelling kit) would throw my safety sensors off and would therefore require them to be disconnected.

I also know Toyota offers a lift kit on the 5 foot box with the sensors still attached.

I want to know: if I put a 2” lift and 33’s on will my sensor no longer work?

I’ll be using my truck to drive to and from Rigs (rough ish roads) and haul equipment, what do you suggest? Lift or no lift? And if lift, do you have any suggestions for good bang for your buck lift kits?

    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas

You will be fine. I have a 2020 LB and lifted it 2” and added 33s. No issues with any sensors. Stay away from that dealer.

Best bang for the buck on a lift would be Bilstein 5100s all around with an add a leaf in the back.

    Oh look, another mod....

Please tell us who this dealer is, so we can drive over there and slap some sense into him. You will be fine if you lift it.

Length does not alway equal height (or girth) in this case.

I don’t think whoever you talked to at the dealer is an idiot. Changing the height of the truck could indeed throw the safety sensors off. It is for this reason that many believe the Toyota TRD lift kit comes with a different grill and is only available on certain trims.

That said, there are very few reports of people having an issue. It’s just one of the many risks of modifying a truck that people live with.

Do you have a ACLB or a DCLB? Both have a 6’ bed, but have a different wheelbase.

Hey thanks everyone for your inputs so far. I wouldn’t say he is an idiot, probably just looking out for my best interest. I have a DCLB if that matters.

I’m trying to make sure the sensors can remain active for insurance.

thanks a bunch for all your help once again, still new here!

There are dealers who sell DCLBs with lifts on them on the lot. Don't think there is any "best interest" in spouting misinformation. Dude is an idiot.

Thanks all for your replies, I will be looking into the lift kit suggested above. Did you lift front and back by 2” or just the front to level it out?

I have a double cab long bed and did 2” in the front and 1.5” in the back. I also did the ECGS bushing (look that up) as I had some vibes after lifting and this fixed it immediately.

The theory I’ve heard that makes sense is that Toyota did not do the safety testing required to certify the TRD lift kit (2” front, 1” back) for the DCLB models which is why they can’t say it’s fine. Everything costs $ and they don’t sell nearly as many of the DCLB as the rest.

Lift and and enjoy. You will be fine!

    Agreed,
Agreed, we've installed 5100s with AAL countless times and they are a great option without breaking the bank too hard.

I have a DCLB , no issues with my 2/1 lift. I went with Bilstein 5100s which is identical to the TRD lift , but the Bilstein version has a longer warranty. The dealer is just reading the fine print that is posted on the Trd lift info.

Obviously no one wants you to lose your sensors, dealer is an idiot because it won’t happen if they know what they are doing. Plus, no one will be disconnecting your sensors, if you go high enough they can be recalibrated. But if you stay 3” or below, you are fine and wont need anything .

Bet you he said youll void your warranty too … lol . That dealer isn’t doing you any favors by giving you misinformation. My dealer wanted to charge me $599 to install a remote start on my new ‘21 and argued with me that they didn’t come stock. Guess who had remote start from the factory when the truck arrived… Makes me wonder how many people paid extra for RS even though Toyota has included them on most trim levels for the past few years.

    “Trust, but verify.”

Although I have also not experienced any issues, I do not think you can say things are working the same as stock without some rigorous testing. For example, I think a person would need to test the collision avoidance system by setting up some obstacles and driving at them to see if the truck stops.

I often wonder how many Toyota dealer employees follow this forum and cringe at all the insults hurled at them. Why are there so many haters?

My dealer experiences have been little different than at any other retail business that sells complicated products. Ups and downs, strikes and gutters.

As stated, this is false info. I'm on 2.5 Toytechs. 2022 TRD QC LB and have no issues at all. Go for it!

It won't mess up the sensors. Toyota (the company itself) has been against lifting DCLB tacomas for a while now. I wouldn't necessarily blame the dealer for this.
