my only complaint(s) about dr chippers is the weak welds on the heat shield (tore off) and their website is crap for parts orders. you have to call to get anything sent.

if i ownned a tractor yes on that band wagon. more power =less time spent.

 

I had one of these when I had some property 12hp belt driven drum chipper. It was perfect for chipping anything that wasn’t firewood size. Miss this old girl sometimes.

thats the one i have! mine was 1400 brand new.with tax. if it has low hours its a pretty decent deal. new blades are 50. belt 30. then its new. 0hrs? hmmm
this is a better deal than i got with sale and coupon.

My dad used a set for years to move round bales

 

Got the trailer painted and lights wired. I repacked the front axle wheel bearings a while back, the back ones were not smooth. Tractor supply near the house wants $42.99 for one side. Ordered both sides for less than that. The wiring box made it so simple and a lot neater.

I went and picked up a new chicken coop last weekend. It was 45 minutes one way, and I stopped at TSC and Lowes for materials. Ten minutes from home, the ball mount came out of the receiver tube and the shock load bent the hooks on my safety chains. The entire trailer was completely disconnected from the truck. Thankfully I was going downhill on an overpass and the trailer rammed into the back of my truck instead of going on its own path. I had picked up some 2x4's and those were poking out over my tailgate. The coop hit the 2x4s and completely prevented any contact damage between truck and trailer. The coop had a few scuffs but otherwise unscathed. I hit the brakes and was able to control and slow the trailer to a stop.

Thankfully I had a spare pin in the truck. I have no clue what happened to the pin that was in there. I drove 80 miles round trip on the highway, through town and bumpy dirt back roads and at the end of the trip suddenly there is no pin.

Only damage is to the ball. I already got new safety chains, drop hitch ball mount, and ball.

Thankful for the outcome considering the situation. Thankful there wasn't any substantial damage to my equipment or others. In disbelief yet humbled that this even happened to me.

I am always pretty careful when towing. I check tires, chains, straps, hitch, etc constantly. I stopped and adjusted the straps on the coop 4 times before I was confident that it was secure. Mainly the small strap I had going over the top to prevent shingles from lifting and flapping in the wind. Odd shaped loads are pretty hard to get right and can shift pretty easy. This was a hefty reminder to be even more stringent on my checks.




For reference, I am not a newbie at towing but not a pro either. I towed daily at low speeds in the Air Force. Anything from 20k equipment to 500lb equipment, daisy chained 4 long or even 2x2. The truck had three hitches, one in the middle and two outside so I could tow two pieces on each outside hitch at a time. I also towed a 35' gooseneck for a year all around the state for construction projects. I had all sorts of wonky equipment strapped to that thing like welding tables, pipe stands, crates, job boxes, etc. Never an incident.

I also now realize that those safety chains are vastly under sized for the trailer. The 2,600lb safety chains I got are much more beefy than the old ones.

Me too, that could have gone way worse than it did.

I'll see what I can do. It is 4'x4' with 12" of one side being the laying boxes. DIY built by a tradesman who wanted a hobby and I picked it up from marketplace. It seems to be pretty well done. A few little things I'd do different but the price was nice.
