Yup. It shifts better if the bushing is a liquid right?

Haven't seen the opaque cap pushed up like that before though

FWIW that old bushing fought me a bunch to get off to get the new delrin Marlin one on, so replacing yours looks like it's going to be way easier :p

So went to assemble the manual hubs/knuckles today. Everything is OEM. Ordered new bearings (90369-54002) from McGeorge. Right out of the box, noticed this - expected? WTF?

Not too sure about that much, but these bearings do have some play in them before they’re pressed on. @zippsub9 may have some input here

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

That amount of play is a bit more than I've seen on those bearings.

    BUT

I think you're still good to go. There IS a little play on those. As long as you support the bearing as you press the hub through it, it should be fine. When you load the 4 pin nut on the back, it will lock that in.

Yeah, I expected there would be a little play but wow. Either the quality control line failed big time or... I'd hate to press them in followed by the hub (supporting the inner race of course) only to have issues. @zippsub9, can you confirm these are good? Thx all.

Just finished up my valve cover gasket change. It seems like my trucks running muuuch smoother in idle now. With all new wires plugs and coil packs. I found spark plug seal on #5cyl was totally shot. Pulled the plug out and there was tons of oil in there. Transmission cooler tied in too. Can’t wait to see the benefit on the temps this weekend.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
What you have are two sealed bearings inside one outer race. The seals holding both bearings together are very thin pressed metal and plastic. This is what causes all the issues and failures when the hub gets pressed in, if not properly supported. That is perfectly normal what you are showing. The -6 models which I have received before have metal on both ends instead of the black plastic on one side. I keep that side protected against the hub. Once the outer race is set inside the knuckle and the hub is evenly pressed in without any pressure on either set of plastic roller casings, all the play and slop is removed with the horizontal application of the hub nut or CV nut depending upon which hub you have. 203 ft/lbs eliminates all linear play and applies only radial force onto the bearings themselves. I know it looks bad and I have refused delivery on a few that fell open from shipping but I have seen this many times before.

Thanks for the reassurance. Will definitely support the inner race when pressing in the hubs - if I decide to use these two. One seems fine but the other feels kind of clunky and you can hear the rollers. Maybe they changed and moved away from the black plastic. I had ordered/received these back in 2/22. I know... lagging on assembly lol.

Normal, don't rip them apart, they usually have a little plastic part keeping them together for shipment

Didn't notice any plastic part (unless its internal), just flipped them over - black side down and they separated.

This was my Corolla bearing, same design though. Plastic orange thing keeps em from separating in shipment

Yep, didn't ship with anything like that. Just in the little plastic baggy inside the good ol' toyota brown box.

Ugh I really need to do this. I could see how bad my valve cover gaskets were leaking when I was pulling the transmission off. Might actually get to it this winter.

Got my new bearings and hubs pressed in, front diff, CVs, and locking hubs on. Half way there.

Excellent work!! I'm curious about your plans for the front diff? Are you going to have it electronically activated? That seems overly complicated since you are using manual hubs. When I did my 4x4 conversion on a '97 4Runner I just removed the diff actuator, slid the shift yoke over to engage the passenger side axle, then locked it in place with a worm clamp.
