While up in northern England we checked out York. A very cool old city.

Little Shambles is supposedly the street that was the inspiration for Diagon alley in the Harry Potter series.

Inside was even more impressive. Such woodworking skills!

Been cruising around Iceland for the past couple of weeks.

Magnificent scenery. It reminds me of Alaska and Norway but without the mosquitoes and without any
    animals

    Mjóifjörður in east Iceland

We elected to ship our truck instead of renting a vehicle as rental costs for even small four-wheel-drives start at $250 a day. And those aren’t allowed to go here:

The Stakkholtsgjá hike in the central highlands.

Small four-wheel-drive’s can’t go there because of this:
    6C4D38E0-CFDC-47FF-AC53-20B33614B1EE.jpg
they even have drive up glaciers!
    DE72CBEC-DDE1-4585-9F9C-03FEB5863CFD.jpg

Because it is just below the Arctic Circle, sunsets last from 11:30 in the evening till 2:30 in the morning.

2 am pee break, had to go back in and retrieve the camera for this!

If you’re thinking of going Iceland is extremely expensive, even more than pricy Norway. Gas is $10 a gallon. Ordinary hotels run $250 per night. Wild camping is strictly prohibited and campgrounds are $25 a night, expect wet, windy days with the highs around 55 degrees - mid July. But the scenery is simply amazing!

Thanks for the pic dump! My daughter wants to go to Iceland for a trip, thanks for the tip on costs, but it does look beautiful. I've never heard of that last canyon, must be because I've never seen a Bieber video.

Sure thing although we’ll have lots more at https://www.roguewanderers.com/blog/iceland where I think we have 60 photos!

After 3 weeks here in Iceland we’re averaging $120 per day costs, including fuel, food, campgrounds, etc. It doesn’t include airfare, truck shipping, or hotels. Hopefully that gives you a better idea

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Awesome stuff Andy. I checked out all of your blog on Iceland, great photos and text. Now I don’t need to go on holiday, I can just live vicariously through your travels.

Did you go down into the catacombs there? They have a window to the cathedral footings. Through it you can see the original church foundation from around the Picts time (not saying they did the church, just the time frame), then the Roman's hand in it, and so on. Very interesting to actually see it - and then to see it all in real relation to each other.

In the US, we get excited to have preserved a 200+ year old log cabin belonging to Pres Lincoln; but no touching!
In the UK, they still hold dances on a 2000+ year old floor in Kensington Palace!

I tour in awe most everywhere I go in Europe.

Darn! We made it inside the cathedral but didn’t know about the catacombs!

I agree that is kind of silly that the US gets so excited about preserving a 150 year old house.

Finally found some Wi-Fi to upload some pics. This is the best drive we’ve been lucky enough to find in our four weeks in Iceland.

    Its the F622 (F for 4wd only)
road which goes around around the Þingeyri Peninsula which is in the West Fjord area.

    E6B99282-C5D2-4E9C-881E-02D0FFBAD1EC.jpg
It starts off mellow with beautiful scenery.

    007A0A5A-ADC4-493B-851C-91977AF3506B.jpg
Then the side slopes get steep and the road narrows

    03C91398-3920-46F5-91F1-3A2AACF8ABE2.jpg
Incredible views at the western end!

    8BBF9DE6-B672-4E6E-8CC3-9A359B4F2610.jpg
All of these pics are unedited

    A1A82931-590B-4BBF-9AAD-028310A751E6.jpg
It’s doesn’t end. Now we get very close to the ocean, glad the sea was calm

    8D07589B-E8BD-4881-A40D-A4E4136D2F9B.jpg
Got a little tight in here in one spot!

    85DF126A-AB54-4E15-9E6C-60D909F45039.jpg
The road obviously gets washed out regularly.

    78AF035E-0D8F-4734-839E-EB4DE0858A3E.jpg
We ended the day at the Dynjandi waterfall

What a day, but in couple of days our Iceland adventure comes to an end

    Great photos Andy, just beautiful!

Some coincidences for you here as you mentioned the “West Fjord”.

The first photo is a commercial halibut longlining boat I worked on, the “Morning Sunrise” at anchor on the west side of the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii). It is the white boat to the left.

My skipper Egan was from Iceland.

The other photo is a commercial salmon troller I worked on, the “Westfjord”. My skipper Grant was Norwegian. Here fishing the west coast of Vancouver Island, about 70 miles off shore.
