    im planning on getting the v6. plans are mainly for off road rides around california. I would say mostly trail rides with some challenging terrain. Not like full on rock crawling.

    I think right now, im just planing on getting whatever comes to me. Im not going to base my buying decision on wether its a manual or not. I see the advantades and disadvantages to both and it seems like it an equal trade.:cool:

    :rofl: I just said it's good for steep inclines it's not needed but trust me there has been times if I were not to use it i would of rolled into a tree. there is a hill at Hollister OHV park that's at about a 75 degree angle and feathering the clutch with the E break to start after being caught in a rut is a life saver.

    No it will do the same on the 3.4 that's what i do most of the time I was just making a point that the E break is a better option for up hill starts then clutch start cancel.

    That sounds more of a gearing issue than a power issue.

    As much as I love my manual, having a park function would be nice...mainly because my ebrake doesn't hold my truck for shit...so if I gotta get out on any type of incline I gotta turn my truck off.

    thats the purpose of this thread. im looking for a 1st gen because the 2nd gen double cab wasnt worth it because no one was ever riding in the back. I like the firsties because they are more of a "compact truck"

    Scanning through, I don't see where anyone asked what off roading was.

    Most people think of unimproved roads or beach as off road. If that's the case, eh, who cares.

    For what the tacoma is capable of (not much in stock form and can't be modified much, IFS) either will work. You'll really wish you had a manual in some situations, I haven't ever wished I had an automatic transmission off road.

    Auto trucks don't have a worth using e-brake. The manual is at your right hand. Rolling back has nothing to do with a manual, any more than rolling it over does. Don't roll back. There are several systems already in place on every car to stop this from happening.

    Historically in all makes and models, automatic transmissions have not liked high load low speed anything. They heat up, they slip, they're not usually durable.

    The tacoma auto and manual have no reputation good or bad.

    completely stock
    ive been on some pretty nasty stuff i wished i had an auto. on some of the rock crawling type trails are steep and you cant use momentum so you wind up having to burn some clutch. The alternative is dual cases. you want a crawl ratio of at least 80-100:1 for crawling. at least in an auto it just wont roast the clutch. then again the clutch isnt hard to change

    I wheel mine great as a manual I like having the control over the truck. But my buddy with his auto do just fine. For me I pole manual but I did some rally a few years ago and I like the shift. I think it just come down to what you feel comfortable driving.

    I have driven manual all my life, I'm tired of it for daily driving, and I think an auto is great for someone getting into the sport. In my opinion auto all the way, but I'm also tired of rush hour traffic in a manual.
