    Two points:
    - Toyota is aware of the transmission concerns/complaints by the community
    - Toyota is just as capable as any individual tuner to adapt/correct theses shift parameters if they wanted to

Thus, they know, but don’t seem motivated to actually correct it. WHY

    So, Maybe it’s by design?

Manufacturers are held to continually constraining emissions expectations. With no data to back myself up, I would venture to say they have selected parameters that keep the tailpipe emissions at squeaky clean levels by design, with the drivability intentionally secondary to those emissions settings.

Toyota puts out a product that complies with the strictest state and federal mandates and leaves the door open for 3rd party tuners to make revisions on their own.

    Thoughts?

This is too early, and I'm too sober to try and understand this conspiracy theory

Lol only a tiny percentage of owners have any issues.

I really don’t have an issue with the transmission hunting for gears. I just bought a 2022 DC Sport 3 months ago. The gear hunting threads had me worried but I went for it and bought it. Glad I did. I’ve taken it on a 600+ mile roads trip/up and down mountains. Nada

I've had two 3rd gens. No issues with either. But I sure do love following these threads.

You'd think by the 3rd gen they'd be getting better.... seems to be alot of complaints now days. I'm sure some of it has to do with the parts/labor/quality control problems but look at the frame rust/rotting out problems... you'd think that would have been a thing of the past by now. :annoyed:

I think you're dead on with the EPA emissions. It's the same reason manufactures are dropping high displacement V8's for turbo'd V6's

Mine doesn’t overly gear-hunt either, it’s more that it’s in the wrong gear 3/4 of the time.
It’s like it’s always a gear higher than it should be. Never in the power band.

400 miles on my 2022 and going up, but not getting better.

Try driving it in the mountains. It's painfully noticable

Big Bear every weekend, but I don’t go up or down the mountain in ‘drive’. Always in manual mode to choose my gear. I don’t think I would drive mountain roads in drive even if it did shift better. Just me. I prefer a manual trans in these conditions.

You gotta put more miles on it. Mine didn't start really improving till a couple thousand miles. Put your foot in it a little more.

Mine will shudder a little bit, but I've noticed it more with the AC on (more engine load) and I rarely drive over 55mph so I think that's where some of my issues come from. Not getting into the normal/not normal discussion this time.

Gear hunting, eh, it's programmed to get and stay in the highest gear possible. Kinda sucks living in a hilly and mountainous area. I just kinda deal with it. Or if I don't want to, I just get in the 2nd gen.

It’s really early in the life of your truck. Drive it like you stole it right now. Let it learn to be a little more aggressive.
