Today was the day for me. I started back in November trying to get one and it finally happened.

I've been mostly lurking on this thread but I wanted to share my story now that I've finally reached the promised land to give an idea of my timeline. This thread, all of you, and last but certainly not least @Rod03 have kept me sane during these many months of waiting.

My timeline isn't as specific logistics wise as I'm in Texas/Gulf States Toyota region and @Rod03 wasn't able to track my truck and my salesman even though very nice was either unable or unwilling to give me specific updates. Either way this thread gave me solace that I wasn't alone in my wait and my experience seemed pretty normal.

    Timeline:
3/24/22: Placed a deposit on Army Green TRDOR-Short Bed. These were my only requirements. I wanted LED headlights but I didn't have to have them.

4/15/22: Dealer contacts me with the same truck allocated but in silver instead and I passed.

5/12/22: After waiting a while and then reading this thread I decided to get more aggressive. I started calling dealers all across my area and found one unclaimed exactly how I wanted it but in a premium. The dealer had about $4K of dealer add ons that were non-negotiable and a $5K Market Adjustment for a total of $9K over the MSRP! I didn't need it that bad and passed.

5/17/22: I kept calling dealer after dealer all across the state until I actually found one about an hour away from me that someone had reportedly backed out on and was already built. The price was right so I put a deposit down that afternoon. The truck was supposed to arrive on 5/28/22

5/27/22: Salesman calls and says that all of their Tacomas have been put on hold for a "software update" and they don't know when they'll come in.

I called weekly after that to get updates but there was no news at all every time. My Toyota app would show doors unlocked about twice a week. My truck had the Tech package so I don't know if this was part of the delays as some have suggested.

7/8/22-7/10/22: My Toyota app lit up and I got about 10 door lock notifications and my odometer increased from 2-4 miles. I also had a tire pressure reading for the first time that weekend

7/11/22: My sales guy calls and says the truck is there. There was no warning from him but all the activity on the app gave me a feeling. My wife and I drove the hour that night to get it.

My 2 cents is not new but it bears repeating I think. Just keep at it with a positive attitude. Always be calling, emailing, looking on cars.com and the like and eventually it should pay off.

My next step is PPF/Ceramic coating, then ADS lift, body mount chop, wheels/33's, and all the rest of the mod madness. Good luck to you all!

Thanks for sharing. I'm in a similar situation. Houston so also GST and my dealer while very nice and the best one I've ever dealt with is not very helpful with updates. The last 2 days my mileage has gone to 3 miles and I've gotten about 16 door unlocks plus tire pressure readings. So I am hoping dealer will call me soon with news. Im thinking the truck is at the Houston GST lot and that they are adding my port options. But who knows maybe it's still in Mexico.

I hope one of those Lunar DCSB is mine! Though I don’t know why they’d be on 99 and not the 5 going to the Bay Area.

I can’t imagine what’s holding up my truck, it was built the 12th. Maybe the wheel locks or predator tube steps? I hope it’s not stuck in a hold.

Really hoping my Taco is on that boat with yours. Destination is Jersey Shore, so seems likely? But no updates from the mostly silent dealership...

Like everyone else, I've gotten more info from @Rod03 than anything.

Brand new member. Didn’t think I could ever find the combo I wanted until dealer texted saying they had a new allocation today. I have had every dealer around the greater Houston area looking. I secured it but have no idea where or when. Any help is appreciated.

Congrats and Welcome! Since there is no letter in the last 6, that's a permanent VIN - meaning the truck has actually already been built. (in case you didn't know that yet)

I put my allocation down in Nov and didn't get it accepted until May, built in June - if you got what you wanted and it's already built, you are WAY ahead of some of us!

My only request was double cab, 4x4, v6, auto. Wife wanted Magnetic gray (similar to our Challenger). I had lots of offers for other colors or 2wd. Dealer sent me an allocation today of a TRD OR

Anyone from Hawaii waiting on their Tacoma? I was told my truck was built in June and expected to be delivered late August to mid September.

Was just told mine was delayed in production, and waiting for updated ETA. They provided an "Interim VIN". I have never dealt with this (this is my first BRAND NEW) vehicle.

What I was told was coming: 2022 TRD PRO, MGM, 6M

I put the VIN into www.vincheckup.com, and this is what they show:

    • VIN:
    • 3TYCZ5AN3NT26B646
    • Age:
    • 0
    • Trim:
    • SR5 Double Cab Long Bed V6 6AT 4WD
    • Style:
    • CREW CAB PICKUP 4-DR
    • Driveline:
    • 4WD
I'm really hoping I didn't wait this long to get the wrong truck... Can anyone who has experience with new vehicles or "Interim VINs" put my mind at ease? Or should I be contacting the dealer to tell them, "This isn't what I ordered?"

Mine was the same throughout the entire process.
