Around 40 this time, the backside calls for a +.0006 tolerance for some 30MM round to fit in it. The last batch basically paid for this Sharp SV2412 mill.

That's what I was thinking. If I knew him better I would have said "do you want to run it?"

They are a production shop, we are not. My boss quoted it and hasn't ask when will I be done which tells me I am on par with time allotted :D

Going to give this tool a try. I really wish we had a cnc lathe to run these on. 99% manual repair shop. I only run this machine probably once every 6 months and its always the shit jobs the guys dont want to do.

Asked Maritool what to run these at but havent heard a reply yet.

The backsides are done, just used a finishing EM and watched the tolerance, almost no tool wear. Finish on the bottom was kinda bad looking but you cant feel it.

Got a quick and dirty fixture plate set up so I can pop pressfit holes into this box and plate that goes inside it. Grabbed some scrap .078" steel sheet to practice on and dial in my hole sizing. Have 3 pressfits for 3 different knurled inserts. One is a 8-32 stud, the others are 8-32 and 6-32 nut inserts. Never used these before so glad I did some testing. They have knurling on the backside to bite into the topside of the material. I used the arbor press to get them seated nicely. Definitely different than my usual pressing in of pins.

    lUzzLgYV15K-GrY9U1RXMZdJ5jA7R2CU0gM3Xjn8_2376c0134639f2087109453cec92905b67178522.jpg

The first stud puckered the sheet on the backside where the material was pushed into the hole in the arbor base. So I added an 8-32 fat/fender washer under it so it had some nice surface area to press against. The 2nd one came out perfect. The nuts go in pretty easily as well. Just more force required due to the knurling.

now onto the real deal. first the plate on this fixture.. then tear down my fixture and riser and clamp the box and box door straight to the table.

Boss man brought this top hat piece back this morning and said he messed up. The middle hole was supposed to be tapped and wanted me to put this thread insert in it. He went to lunch, I remade it. I ain’t putting that ugly thing in this, we do better work than that!

Good call! Probably just about as easy to remake it as it would be to try and get that insert in, which looks a little big for the part.

I must have missed something. You trying to make that part on the mill but why not a first operation on the lathe? :notsure:
Sometimes a thread insert is a better option for aluminum.
I'm starting my weekend in about 5 minutes!

We dont have a CNC lathe sadly, if I had 4th axis that would work decently too. The manual guys are way to busy to sit there all day and remove material. There mostly on rush jobs.

I like 3 stacked with butter in between them. Waffles sometimes get to hard to chew.

    I like my Pancakes .

Fresh made Waffles from home made batter were much better then any waffles I got in a Diner in the last 20 years.
