Need some advice from some older people and really can't tell if I'm freaking myself out.

Situation is I am almost out of debt...like 3k and debt gone. We have baby number 2 on the way and would like that gone before baby gets here. My wife stays home and I am the sole provider. I make decent...but the drive sucks.

I drive 90 miles a day which has been the tacoma. I have two trucks..one my grandad left to me a 97 silverado.

    99 Tacoma 341,000 miles 2.7 4cyl 5 speed 4x4
Truck is great..ac heat all work and 4wd is a plus...extended cab so not much room for passenger. Paint sucks but it's just a little 4wd.

My grandad left me a 97 Silverado. 5.0 2wd...some sentimental value but it was just his farm truck.
No a/c runs great but runs good. Needs about 200 bucks of odds and ends.

Just need to keep a truck to haul stuff around. Really thinking about the tacoma stays...

I don't see gas going down anytime soon and would like to acquire a 97 honda couple 5 speed I have found for 2500 bucks.

My idea is selling the tacoma or chevy...buying the car and paying off the debt which would save 200 a month plus by my calculating about 250 in gas.

Wondering if Im freaking out and trying to jump to fast to a decision or should I follow through clear up some debt by selling one of the trucks.

Wise thinking on being debt free. I would sell whatever and save 450 per month. Kids are not cheap.

I get the sentimental value, but in the end this is just a “thing” and you know your Dad would want the best for his son/family.

I also drive about 85 miles a day. That is why I have a commuter car and don’t daily drive my diesel tow rig.

Ya sell the Silverado. Its a tough call given its from your dad but I think he would prefer you have debt free stability and not a truck to just haul stuff around. Could probably get a better price for the taco but I think its better in terms of gas and reliability.

Edit, theres someone on here with a 2.7 taco with 1.5 million miles on it. It has a swapped engine but the first one went to like 700k i think.

Think about not talking yourself into freaking out about this.

You and wife have made some excellent decisions to get to this point and will continue to do so as you sort it out.

Congratulations and good luck with your growing family!

(Yes, sell your grandad’s Silverado or better yet, find a deserving person in need, maybe a Vet, who could really use it.)

Market is crappy right now. Aim high a lot of people/company’s are paying top dollar for trucks.

It's a 97..doubt a company wants it but an individual yes. If the a/c worked I would say 6k all day long..but without I'm thinking 4500

which truck are you actually likely to use??

the chevy hauls stuff better than the taco, but the taco has a/c and 4x4...

sell one, take the money and get a Honda or Toyotacoupe/sedan for that long Daily drive.

not really a tough decision. unless you have nothing else as an heirloom from your father, i vote to sell the Chevy. however, your taco has some miles on it, you're going to need some savings $ for repairs/maintenance.

good for you, getting out odf debt

341k on the taco...been driving it 90 miles a day for the last year.

The chevy I haven't used much at all...just did some odd and ends to get it running good.

Were in Alabama...weather isn't a issue but we do get sever weather just not snow..The tacoma would be better suited for driving on stormy days vs the chevy

2wd hurts a little bit, but a clean Chevy that age brings a premium in these parts. Rare to see one with rockers and cab corners here......

We have emergency funds and some savings but thinking about grabbing this little honda before it gets gone..hard to find stock un molested hondas..

Both trucks are for sale...which ever goes first it goes use that money to put back off an pay off debt.

I was in a lot of debt over a year ago...going from my 18 f-150 to the tacoma helped me pay off a lot...started with a 40k truck loan lol

You got anything made from thunderstorms and Bruce lee movies? Possibly able to round house kick a ford in the face. Haha. Seen that Amiri king line in your truck description had to reply sorry OP https://youtu.be/UfHtcUZXljw

    @Smokestacks

maybe I'm crazy. LoL, i got rid of a $650 monthly payment on that van. it had been upside down as soon as we left the lot ... when the market flipped, the van became worth $6,000 more than the previous month.

we immediately went to the dealership to get rid of it. they wouldn't give me cash, but i saw a mint looking camry in the junk area and asked about it. i gave them the van and left with a paid off car. no funny business dealer math LoL

Dealership "technicians" don't really know much (the ones I've dealt with). they couldn't get the camry running. LMFAO, all it needed was a tune up and a battery.

they couldn't even jump it right because it's a manual transmission and the dude wasn't putting the clutch all the way down to the sensor. hahaha, i jumped it and drove it home misfiring.

the sales guy was laughing about it when i came back a few days later to get the plate.

we got rid of our cable, internet, all vehicle payments, lower insurance payment etc. we now have $1000 less on our regular monthly bills.

do it. when your life/money situation stabilizes later, you can always get another 4x4. 4x4 is just extra weight and wasted fuel, if you aren't using it.
