Well..the tacoma went first for 6k. Hated to see it ok, but after baby gets here wofe said we can look for a crew cab 1st gen..something that will fit a car set. For now with the mileage adding up amd gas going crazy it was for the best.

Picked up this 97 accord 5 speed coupe for 2500. 220k miles..inside is really clean. Lots of new parts. Paint sucks but egh.

Debt is gone for 2500 actually.

With gas and payment gone i can out back and extra 450ish a month for my family..and grandpas truck is here and ready to roll to.

If you have some extra money get the ac fixed on the Chevy. That will be a useful truck for a while. Good work thinking about the family finances.

I’m curious how old you are, ballpark wise. I’m closing in on 50 and would never have been so prudent about a few K of debt. Impressive.

I definitely think it is worthwhile to have a fuel efficient vehicle if you have to commute. I had a Prius for 7 years for that purpose, replacing a Corolla which got some decent miles on it before I traded it for the Prius. But I wound up with a tiny commute soon after getting the Prius and then Covid subsequently blew up the need to be in an office for most tech jobs so I stopped caring much about fuel economy. Your commute is significant and minimizing costs to get to work should be a priority.

What is the plan for bad weather? I don’t know how rough the roads get in Alabama. A front wheel drive car might be better than a 2wd pickup so you may be all set.

If I were hunting for an MT daily for commuting with a chance of bad weather, that would be a really tough one.

As far as kids go, a used minivan in poor cosmetic condition but good mechanical condition could be a great option. You didn’t say what your wife is currently driving. We get a massive amount of use out of our Odyssey and I’ve used it for as many Home Depot trips as any of my trucks.

I'd keep both trucks, do they both need to be on the road at the same time. Tag and insure the one you need to drive unless it's cheaper to keep them both registered in the long run. Move closer to work if, you plan to stay there and can afford it. Have the misses, get a job when she can. Everybody I know who has more money, and debt live in a two income household. I'd sell the Tacoma, if you need to sell, that should net a higher profit, and the Chevy has much more interior space.

Kept the Chevy I see, bought an Accord. Did he say he wants to buy a DC Tacoma? Maybe as a replacement for the Chevy? People go into debt building those things up.

My 2 cents: You're on the right track, but with a growing family, high gas prices, a 90 mile comute with a 23 year od truck w/341,000 miles on it, you don't need any big repair bills from any vehicles to add to your debt. IMO, I would sell both trucks and buy the the lowest mileage Honda CRV you can find. It is one the highest rated SUVs and would serve your family well. Put another truck in your future after your head is above water.

$3k debt is not a big deal. Sell all the vehicles and get one newer reliable one.
