Does the cake come with vodka?

If they can prove it is normal by letting my hear 2 other new 2.7 I have no problem moving on.

Yours didn’t do it on the dealers lot so no, listening to an identical truck as yours doesn’t prove or disprove anything.

Ummmmm yes they most definitely can require you to make an appt to inspect your truck. Just like the judge will require you to schedule a hearing for your lemon law case. You said yourself your truck didn’t do it on the lot…so listening to a truck on the lot proves what exactly??

So... Your truck makes noise.... if you listen to another truck idle... your truck will stop making noise....? You don't even know what is making the noise..

Have you taken the time to book an appointment with the dealership so their techs can spend time to diagnose your truck? I don't think anyone will just come out and do a full diagnoses for anyone that just randomly pulls up to the lot.

You want the dealership to do everything for you yet you don't even want to take the time to book a time for them to look at it.

    Yeah.
OP, you just need to go to another dealer. I listened to the videos, something is obviously making noise, but after your exchange with this particular dealer, I wouldn't count on them helping you out even if Toyota comes down on them. It could be fine, or it might not be -- but you need to get it on record. That might require making an appointment with a dealer so they can run through some diagnostics. Getting a log of your complaint and a record of the diagnostics done is what you need, even if they can't identify the specific problem. If something later fails, you have that to fall back on, that you tried to have it taken care of during the warranty period.

These trucks are noisy, and some sound different.

There are 16 pages and counting of literally everyone telling him to do this. But no. He somehow expects the world to beat a path to his door and beg him to fix his truck without him asking.

Did you not read the first post. My truck was knocking on the dealerships lot. It was pretty loud in the bay. I drove it into the parking lot, left it running so they could hear it, then they asked me to pull it into the service drop-off bay. The tech went under the truck and finally came clean to hearing the noise, but did not know what it was, but only after I said "You are telling me you cannot hear that?". Then after some talking, I asked if I could hear one of the 2.7 they had to see if it makes the knocking sound, then the service adviser said they had none, but I point to them and called him out on his lie. They lied about not having a 2.7 truck on the lot. If they did not want to let me hear one, then they could have just said no. Pretty, simple.

Starting to wonder if you work at a dealership :)

Sound stays the same when revving, does not get louder. anything over 1000 rpm makes it hard to hear, but it is still there.

Jesus you are something else. You said it didn’t do it brand new but 3 1/2 months later. The truck on the showroom floor, is it brand new or 3 1/2 months old with 1600 miles on it?

You’re being a dick to the OP while simultaneously missing his point. He was trying to establish the noise is not normal, by comparing his truck’s engine sound to one on the lot.

Edit: if you think the OP needs to find a truck at the same mileage to compare to, you’re assuming that it’s normal for the sound of a truck’s engine to significantly change in that short period. Which makes no sense.

Maybe take it to a trusted independent repair shop and have a tech listen to the noise. Throw him/her a few dollars for their opinion

His didn’t do it when he bought it either is my point. So they start a truck on the lot, it doesn’t make the noise. Yes, his sounds different. What does that prove? He still needs to make an appointment to get his truck looked at to which he said he doesn’t need to do. The dealer needs to put his truck in front of every customer who did make an appointment because he thinks he has a lemon. It doesn’t work that way.

My truck did not make the knocking sound for the first 3 1/2 months. If the sound is normal why did it start after 3 1/2 1600 miles? I checked out a use 2018 and 2021 neither made the knocking sound.

To me, a truck that starts making a knocking noise under 2k miles would be an issue. Though his methods were not what others would do the truck still makes a noise HE doesn't like in a new vehicle.

@smta have you made an appointment at another dealer or you waiting for something from Toyota corporate?

If the OP puts a 2.7 on the lot next to his truck and they sound significantly different, it proves that the sound of his motor is not normal.

You are implying that it’s perfectly ok for a truck motor’s idle sound to change significantly after just a few months. I disagree completely.

The original post seemed to imply that the OP was told he could make an appointment but it would take weeks for the truck to get looked at. It’s unclear but it sounds to me like whatever was communicated to him was not as simple as “just make an appointment and we will take a look”. He certainly hasn’t said that he demanded to be placed front of the line. He’s also said Toyota corporate is setting him up with an appointment, unclear if same or different dealership.

Not my intention at all. I’ve heard the videos and agree it doesn’t sound normal. Like I’ve been suggesting for many posts, make an appointment and have the dealer inspect it. OP said he doesn’t need to make an appointment and they should inspect his truck whenever he says they need to.

I would not need to make an appointment if the other truck on the lot made the same knocking sound. Do you not get it? I was looking for a simple solution at that point and time, it was the dealership that lied and said they did not have any 2.7 on the lot. They were right there like 10 - 30 away. No the dealer does not need to put my truck in front of every customer.

I think you work at a dealership. Are you angry dealership will be Tesla-ed out of business?
