Short "Uuughh" rubbing noise when pulling away after the truck sits for 10+ mins

Here is a strange one that I cannot seem to diagnose however I have my suspicions, really hoping some experienced experts on here can help me zero in on the culprit.

A couple of months ago I noticed that my center bearing on the drive shaft was a bit loose, so I had the u-join replaced and now there is no more play. Ever since then, I have this short "UUUUGHH" noise that lasts a little less then a second, I can feel a very slight vibration and the noise is audible but not super loud. The noise only happens when pulling away after the truck sat for a few minutes, it's most pronounced/noticeable after about 10+ minutes of the truck sitting, and essentially the loudest once it sat overnight.

To clarify, there is no grinding, knocking, or anything of that sort. It doesn't happen again once I start moving, and doesn't happen when I sit on lights and then pull away.

The independent mechanic wasn't able to repeat the issue, even when I was in the car with him and the truck sat around for 45 min while I waited for him to take a look at it.

After trying to diagnose it with a test drive, he was not able to repeat the issue, but he greased up all the parts that could have made that "uuuughh" rubbing noise. I took the truck back, went home and parked it. The next morning, and anytime I leave the truck to sit for more than 10 minutes, the sound is still there, unaffected by the grease/silicone he sprayed.

Does anyone know what it could be? Is it possible that due to the u-join being non OEM? Also, why would it happen when I first pull away after it sitting for a little while and then never again? Why not on short stops?

This is driving me so nuts! Did this ever happen to anyone else?

    I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4.

Also, this just came to mind. After I got the truck back from service the mechanic mentioned not being happy with the e-brake tension (or something along those lines). Is it possible this rubbing noise is coming from the ebrake? To clarify, I don't use my e-brake when parking in the garage, or really anywhere unless there is an incline.

Brake related would be my guess, rusted caliper slide pins or the pads just sticking to the rotor surface.

Could it be the e-brake causing it? Yes. I never took the time to learn much about drum brakes, so I can't really offer any advice.

The sound that sounded like some sort of rubber rubbing when pulling away was actually the ABS Actuator doing it's thing after the first few feet of driving away. The mechanic said this is normal, and that some ABS is louder and more noticeable than others.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? Is there a way to possibly dampen the sound?

I don’t think it’s normal. At least, not for a 2nd gen Tacoma. Owned my Taco for a year and been reading a lot on the forums in that time, never seen it mentioned. Unlike blower motor, 4WD actuators, center bearing, etc. which are mentioned all the time.

Interesting. One poster in the first link mentioned it's in the manual. I searched the PDF of the manual for mine and this is about the closest thing I found that might apply:

While it's not a very specific statement, seems like it might describe your situation. I think I can safely say my 2011 doesn't do it. Last click I recall hearing was from the rear break self-adjusters when I braked after backing down the driveway. But if your brakes are otherwise operating normally, seems like it ought to be benign.

If it's something else, hopefully it'll get worse slowly and be more reliably reproducible so you can get to the bottom of it.

My 2011 dcsb sr5 does this too. Always after sitting overnight. Very faint grunt noise from the front - sounds like someone stepping on a Guinea pig

LOL... never have stepped on one of them myself. I'd have to borrow one to do that, in any case. :D

I used one from Rock auto with no problems. Just saying.

E brake cables were the first thing I thought of for the OPs problem.

Yep, some sounds are louder than others, this is what the mechanic assured me. Also, after doing my research, it does appear that some people hear it more, and others can't seem to hear it at all. It's not a click sound however, it's more like a very short pump sound, like an "ughhh", very rubbery and soft sounding. Happens every time I pull away (after truck sat for a while), and now it's much less noticeable that I know it's a normal sound and not something rubbing as I thought prior to looking into it.
