Everyone who keeps hounding the OP about not making an appointment should read the above, it is in work.

In that case, just let us know when your appointment is. No need to be trying to justify anything here to anyone. It's your truck....get the appointment...let Toyota fix it. Dealership are motivated to do warranty work because they get paid by the auto company. And if it helps, yeah I think there is a non-normal noise that should be resolved. Put away your anger toward dealerships...it's not helping you. Use them for your needs which in this case is for service.

No, I was not. There was a choice. Go look at some of your other replies.

At least you got a job at a dealership as an overnight tech :)

You are aware those are two very different engines. The 3.5 is a higher tech design and will sound different with more mechanical noises.

It does not bother me. I'm in front of 4 high res displays doing some dev/design work, listening to some music, and drinking some vodka :)

Yes. Basically, I was trying to say the 3.5 Tacoma engine was trolling me in my quest to find a 2.7 making the knocking noise.

Nope. Paid a hell of a lot more than you did. And when my BSM stopped working at 18 miles on the truck, I had to make an appointment just like you need to. They still can’t fix it a year later but I’m patient and will be replacing the bumper with one that doesn’t have BSM capability so I’m not going all Kevin on the service manager like you did. And my dealer loves me!

And look you got a broken truck and decided to eat the cost. Looks like your patience did not pay off. Yummy?

The service manager should not have lied to me :)

Yup. Truck is broken. Might as well part it out. Or bitch about it to everyone on the internet. But I made an appointment. Haha! So still got you beat. The service manager doesn’t give two shits about what vehicles are on the lot.

You made an appointment and your result is an unfixed truck. One year in with an unfixed truck and you say your dealer loves you. You do realize some of what you wrote in the last couple posts, just reinforces why I am trying to get my truck look at as soon as possible? You were patience and it did not pay off. You got a truck with an issue and your solution is to be docile and eat the cost?

Nope, I made the appointment. The service advisor discussed the issues with me. I talked to the tech. And made the decision that I do not want them to pursue getting the regional tech involved because I do not want the system in question. We determined that the issue is confined to the BSM only and throwing simple parts at it wasn’t a fix. I’ve since put over $10,000 of parts on the truck and deeming this truck a lemon would not benefit me. Especially since I’ll be putting a bumper on the truck that does not utilize the system in question anyway. So yes, I will “eat” the cost that I would already be eating in the end anyway. I looked at my options, was reasonable with the dealer, and we still have that relationship. If I want it fixed, they can try to fix it. If they can’t, I can still lemon it. But it isn’t a lemon in my eyes, it is an amazingly capable truck that will take me anywhere I point the wheel.

lol. i couldn't make it past the part where he says he's got 10 years in the automotive industry. where he did everything from sell cars, to parts, to service department, and finally tech for 5 years. so this guy sucked at all of it so bad, but had connections so, they had no choice but to shuffle him off to another department...

he might be a wide river, but he's shallow enough to cross with flip flops.

Also, if I was the service manager, I would not want someone who is claiming lemon law on a *minor* issue (after running in and demanding an inspection without an appointment) on my lot either. If you had been a little nicer, more patient, and respectful of their time, I am sure they would have given you the opportunity to work the issue out. There is a time for someone to crawl under other trucks, and the time is not whenever they feel that they are entitled to barge in and listen to trucks while there are bigger problems to deal with. It takes time to hunt down the key, get out to the truck with you, and compare and contrast engine noises. Just make an appointment.
