I was thinking of a full suspension upgrade. New springs, or switch to a 4 link with coilovers. That's why I said it would be expensive.

This is what I was thinking.

100%. I don’t personally know anyone that’s been unhappy after doing it if all the trucks I’ve done.

In general I’d say fuel mileage and reliability is actually improved. If you get into the weeds.. the stock tune does some weird shit that’s not super great

@Shellshock did my taco in the finest Walmart parking lot two years ago and, can confirm, it was great.

    That came out wrong.

    ...or did it?

True that. When I was first researching trucks I looked at Ram since I like the stying of some years and have long been a touch of a mopar guy. But I just can’t bring myself to buy a truck that will have through rot in the fenders before the payments are done.

We can complain all we want about frame rust but at least Toyota owns up to the issue somewhat. I can’t say I’ve seen any gen taco that had the body rotted out here in Wi.

Having fluid filmed mine before the first winter I fully expect it to die of electrical failures long before the body rusts through.

i believe @mZiggy is working on / has tunes for some configurations of the 4.0

the 3.5 is far more problematic from the factory so that’s where most of the demand has been for me.

Indeed, been working on test tunes for the 2GTacoma with a tester local to @tonered

Others have occasionally said we're behind the curve on 2GT tunes but as @Shellshock said the major demand has been 3rd gen and all their issues, and then developing the 3GT Magnuson supercharger Stryker tune demanded pretty much all of my free time for an extended period of time.

There is more to be found with the 2nd Gens. Similar to the gains found on 4Runners.

Free to a good home. Meso Customs white only dome and map lights for 3rd gen. I'm not shipping so either you have to come to me in Sheboygan or get them from me at a get-together I'm attending.

Edit- gone to a new home

So how does one get a tune and what would it cost. Sounds as if you are playing with them-what is the time line?

Tune isn't finished, so cost isn't decided.

Timeline wise, unknown since I don't have a tester that's able to run revisions as quickly as I send them.

Okay, so beating around the bush isn't working. 2nd Gen tune-out there? What do they typically cost? What are the gains? What are the draw backs? I need input from the crew. Not displeased; however, I do tow a fair amount and the truck generally just makes a ruckus without much go... would this be a valid and affordable way to make some gains without a super charger?

My god does the $$$ hemorrhage ever slow?

To your last question...nope! But please don't feel pressured to spend money.

Otherwise, paging @geekhouse23 for 2nd gen tune insight.

    3" lift? A.R.E cap 285/70/17 moto metal 955 17x9

Consensus around TW over the last 4 or 5 yrs is that the 4.0 is wound pretty tite, the only way to get more out of it is to s-charge it.

A couple of yrs ago one of the big names came out with a program for the 4.0, but it wasn't enough of an improvement to justify the dollars so it never caught on.

Is there a tune for the 5th gen? I'm pretty satisfied with the 4.0, but curious about these "gains.". I wouldn't hate more power, or better fuel economy.
