Ok it’s Friday and yesterday’s talk of Rebel 10 made me want a pour. Man this is GOOD whiskey.

I am glad to hear that :)

I myself am back in the Hirsch, and now pour no. 2 is Four Roses SiB.

Man this is GOOD whiskey. Alas, I have not found another from the same barrel code, but I'm not too worried because I haven't had a 4R SiB I didn't love yet.

Pour number two for me is Kentucky Owl.. today is a high dollar night I guess lol.

This is an even better bottle i know the Irish theme was a little bit gimmicky but it’s spectacular.

Went to my local and he was unable to order me EW 1783, out of stock. Picked up EW green label because I've never had it. I mean it's ok but BiB is so much better for only a few dollars more.

EW BiB is pretty much it for under $20. I can't think of anything better in that price bracket.

I had a pour at my boss’s house and it convinced me to spend $103 without hesitation on a bottle when I was in town. Took it home, poured one for me, the FIL, BIL and brother and was throughly unimpressed. Seemed like a different bourbon altogether. Perhaps it was a case of this “neck pour” I hear about on here occasionally.

Im suspicious as fuck of this brand. NDP, NAS, and they provide 0 info whatsoever about where they source from.

Who knows? Maybe your bottle had a whole different juice.

I don’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me. The pour I had was fan-fucking-tastic then when I poured one for the group from my bottle after talking it up you could see the look of “is this a joke?” I just finished an Eagle Rare, maybe I’ll give it another try.

I’m stumped. Tonight’s pour is different. Starts with heat, ends sweet (forgive my terrible palate descriptions, admittedly I can’t detect the detailed notes that some can on here). This is the bourbon I remember that convinced me to buy a bottle. This is NOT what I remember from 3 weeks ago from this same bottle that was so disappointing.

Now I’m wondering if it’s the neck pour that I’ve heard about or was it something else. We’d had a round of pilsners (which I wouldn’t normally be drinking) not too long before pouring the round and we’d recently eaten.

Alright, that settles it. Tomorrow I will have bourbon and pilsner beer while grilling. I owe it to this thread to get to the bottom of this. It’s gonna be a tough day but I’m willing to make this sacrifice in the name of flavor science.

So I’ll 100% agree the brand Kentucky Owl itself provides no info, no age, no nothing…. BUT there bourbons, at least the ones I have had are VERY good. I’ll tell you I didn’t love my St Pattys bottle like I do now when I opened it, I think it needed a couple months of air on it to open up and get better. Not saying this will make it better for you but I enjoy it more everyone I revisit it. Also as you said what you eat, or what you’re smelling, cooking, ect can have a huge effect on taste. My BIL is a big time bourbon-head and he will snack on peanuts or even peanut butter occasionally while drinking to enhance his experience. (I think that would be good with a HH product but not so much a 4 roses lol). Anyway, sometimes your pallet is just jacked up for some other reason. Or sometimes your bottle isn’t the same as one you had before. If I were you I’d let it sit for a month and go back to it. See what you think than.

Standard restock other than the smoke wagon. Told my wife about our best looking bottle convo and she picked this of the couple different options I showed her lol. Hopefully I like it :notsure:

So this is actually a huge score for me. I’ve been chasing this bottle for almost two years now, I’ve had it but not for a while. Releases once a year and only seems to be sold somewhat locally. It’s not too far from me so we made yet another trip down today. Grabbed 3 bottles, 2 for me and 1 is a gift for my BIL. $59.95 a bottle isn’t cheap but it’s very good and local. This is a wheater so on the sweeter side. Looking forward to opening one soon.

Hmm maybe I’ll have to pick one up. My local BevMo always has it in stock but I had never heard of it. Just checked the app and they have 9 on the shelf at $45. They also have they rye.
