I was never allowed to have a furby because they were "demonic" so I kind of want one for the novelty and a long furby just adds to the absurdity

 

I wasn't allowed pokemon either so i recently bought a Pikachu lol

 

Damn! I thought my uber-conservative Christian upbringing was strict, but you have me beat there!

I remember my step-mom crying for my soul when she found a cassette single of Motley Crue in my room when I was in middle school. Like I had been sacrificing goats or something lol. Of course she had been snooping in my room when she found it, but Jesus probably told her to do it, so it’s all good.

 

Motley Crue? Straight to hell.

Was it just the one tape or were there other portals to Satan? lol

 

I think there was a Poison tape in there somewhere that really triggered her too haha.

I had forgotten how into hair bands I was once I started getting into music. She would have lost her goddam mind if she saw the cover art that would come along later once I moved in with my mom. Opiate by Tool would have sent her right over the edge lol.

 

The girl I stole that meme from is a friend of my sister's and collects old Furbies to refurbish them into sometimes nightmarish creations for profit, I had no idea it was such a popular past time damn

Lol. I was brought up Baptist, still consider myself one though my church attendance lacks these days.

I was 12 when my dad took me to see Van Halen on a Saturday night. Got up Sunday and went to church, didn't let me wear the tee shirt I got though.

I think my folks knew that I was gonna like the stuff/music that I was gonna like and there was no stopping it so they didn't freak out about it thankfully.

I do remember getting some weird looks at school when classmates saw this playing on my phone.

I’ll tell you, it was a weird way to grow up when all of the Mormon kids that I was friends with had tons more freedom than I did. My dad and stepmom even had families and kids that were off limits to me in our own church

When I moved in with my mom my freshman year, it was like I had crossed the border from North Korea to South Korea or something haha. All the built-up repression rebounded pretty quickly…
