Been considering the Fram Ultra as well, been running D3’s for a long time myself. Dabbled with the Napa Gold 1516’s until I found some info recently that swayed my opinion to switch back to the D3’s. I’ll post the attachment here. I’d like to try the Fram ultra but I know I’ll always be safe with the D3’s.

I use Mobil 1, kn or wix filters. I live in asmall town and not going out-of my way to go to the dealer, waste of my time.

Always use stock filters on my vehicles, Toyota makes excellent quality maintenance parts. They work with the way the engine was made to work and the Toyota ones are cheaper and better quality than most any of the fill in the blank brands. Started seeing Walmart carry stock filters now too.

I even go to the Toyota dealer when I change the oil on my IS350, Lexus wants double for the same part number. My Lexus has had Toyota/red box oil filters since the first time I changed the oil on it; for some reason the blue Lexus box it comes in costs another $6. I don't think anybody is buying that bull anymore because not I'm starting to see "Lexus parts" on the Toyota red box now.

Just keep an eye out for counterfeits on Amazon or anywhere else but the dealership, that's becoming a thing lately.

The FiL insisted on the OCOD until the day he left this Earth. He would buy them and take them to his mechanic for an oil change. The oil itself he couldn't have cared any less about...."whatever is the cheapest". But no other filter was going on his vehicles.

Even after I took over the upkeep of his vehicles about 12 years ago it was the OCOD and SuperTech conventional. The last couple of years of his life I did start using SuperTech high mileage synthetic. But it was still cheap enough he never knew the difference.

His last vehicle, an '04 Sienna was given to his son after his death. Last I heard, it was at 230k miles....having spent it's entire life on OCODs and cheap oil. Lord knows my bother in law doesn't care what is used in it these days.

Everyone has a story of someone's brother's cousin's best friend from high-school who's "car blew up using a Fram". Yet, in my 40 years of wrenching I have never actually met a person who could truly link a failure to a Fram.

Fathers, grandfathers and superstition mechanics have passed that down. The internet has only made it worse.

Whenever someone comes to me and says can you change my oil for cheap? I snag any Warren branded oil I can find.....SuperTech, Amazon Basics, Kirkland, Meijer. Harvest King and a Framn TG filter

Absolutely, Warren is plenty for regular OCI usage

$40 for the 2 Gallon jugs of Harvest King gear oil from the farm supply is just dandy

You know, it’s funny because just last month I did an oil change and installed a Fumoto drain valve, switched oil brands, and put on a Napa Gold 1516. About 3 weeks go by and I’m having some oil seepage coming from the Fumoto. So I said forget it, I’ll take the loss and drain my oil to remove the Fumoto and return it. So I had less then 1K miles on my fresh oil change, but I put the original drain plug back in and a D3 filter on and have slept well ever since. I don’t think it’s gonna be life altering but I am a weirdo when it comes to oil/filters and stuff so I was happy that I did it.

I just made the switch to SuperTech full synthetic high mileage and have been LOVING it. Excellent, excellent performance so far and my 5VZ IS running noticeably quieter. I ran the Kirkland stuff for about 1K miles, maybe a little less, with good results. It was dark when I changed it though, which was kind of odd to me.

I'm here to see how this takes off. I've seen a few of these videos and the latest I saw was about 2 years old which is the one at the top thread. I'd like to see a current one, 2022. I even saw one of these videos where a Fram engineer or quality commented how disturbing it was that our filters were so bad. Even saw one of these videos where the less expensive WIX oil filter had a rattle in it before it was cut open. Turned out to be suspected glue chuck came loose. After working in the manufacturing sector, first as a welder, then retiring as a quality tech. for over forty-five years none of this surprises me. In one before service claim, the distributor was nice enough to send back our battery-powered fastening driver tool. In another claim, the distributor took a picture of a missing radiator cap. We couldn't understand how a radiator cap could be missing as every unit was tested before leaving the building and there was no indication the unit went back for repair before shipping. Strange things sometimes happen in assembly and testing. We never had a true 100% final inspection.

As it stands......several people have inquired about it. But no one has bit. In a couple of weeks they can pay $2k more at the dealer.
