Mine started squeaking at cold starts on warm days randomly last month (one month after my toyotacare ran out…). Purchased May 2019, and currently have 33,000 miles. Dealer told me it was “normal” so I swapped it for 10% the cost they quoted to diagnose and replace. Using this thread, did the work myself today with the Michelin belt linked in this thread from Amazon. Skid plate would have been a pain to take off, so I got by just accessing the pulleys from the top of the engine bay. Checked all of my pulleys, and installed the new one. Easy peasy! Thanks for the write up, @06ltd. Keeping my old one as a spare since it looks good enough for a quick fix if I ever need one.

I just replaced mine at 95k miles with a continental.

It could have gone quite a bit longer. Don't see why people are replacing them at 30k.

Simply because some of us have had problems with them at 30k miles. My Tacoma’s sounded worse than my old Avalon with 100k miles on the original belt. There’s a TSB out there too on this condition, and for myself I was one month out of Toyota Care.

I have a new belt waiting to go on sitting in my garage. Currently @ 71k'ish miles, no issues or noises, but I figured it would be better to do it before it needs done. Went with OEM one.

Just did mine today. Second gen but same pulley system. Took me about 40 minutes. One idler was spinning a little bit rough so I’ll replace that at the next oil change I think.

Because our belt was having issues at 30k? Do you think we’re all replacing them for the fun of it at 30k?

I just did this to my ‘16 trd sport. If you’re doing this without removing anything, make sure your breaker bar is accessing the 14mm nut on the tensioner from the OUTSIDE of the coolant tube. You won’t otherwise be able to get sufficient travel of the bar to fully loosen the tensioner. Don’t ask me how I know… I may or may not have fought with it for 30 min and lost a quart of sweat.

Maybe you have a bearing with too much playing causing premature wear on the belt? Replacing it twice in the same year seems like something may be out of spec lol.

Just replaced mine. Completely unnecessary in my case. Old belt looked great.

Put old belt behind seat just incase I upset my trucks natural balance.

About to replace mine. Just started getting a slight "chirp" that I'm guessing is the belt. We'll see though, might be something else. 2017 with 68,000 miles.

Thanks for the write-up! Makes me wonder, of all the serpentine belts I've changed on other cars, how many of them also had a "service hole" which would have made the job a lot easier!

Another pro tip: if you don't have the routing diagram handy, snap a picture of the old belt with your phone prior to removal. It's amazing how quickly you can forget what it looked like after it comes off. Then use that pic for reference when routing the new belt.

Thanks, done, 30 minutes! Long arms help. Never got the pin in the service hole, just let the tensioner relax after sliding the belt off, then after threading the new belt over all pulleys except the generator, got back on the breaker bar to finish seating the gen. I like one tool jobs. Good to have the belt pattern photo as guide.

Might I add that it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to save the old belt, even if it’s got some cracks and whatnot, just throw it somewhere in the truck or toolbox as a spare in case the new one were to break somewhere down the road.

Mine’s been on there for four plus months, 3000 miles, three long wheeling trips and still workin great. I’m sure most people know how to replace a belt properly, and I know sometimes there’s defects with products, but I’d wager a guess that some/most people leaving bad reviews probably had a bad accessory or idler pulley and didn’t know it until they killed two belts.

Can say Thank You enough for this write up! Changed mine within 30 minutes, only cursed once when i wrapped the belt twice around the fan. No more belt squeaking at 58k, 2019.

Probably could have lubricated, squeak started after going through some dirt/mud trails. This was too easy not to replace.
