I'm tellin ya, we left OKC thinking "Thank GOD we are going to live in a place where we can go outside in the summer!" Oof.

Remember how excited I was about this move? Posting every day? You guys slow-walking me through whatever? Well, the move is sorta officially over, as i finally have my household goods. Getting them was...how you say....a Fiasco? Here's PART of the email I sent the moving company....

"22 July - Delivery! Our new delivery window was set for 11a-1p, They arrived at 2pm. Instantly confrontational - he asked to see the storage unit to which they were delivering. He refused to open the back of the truck and discuss what was the way ahead until I signed for every box and paid him up front. Paying him up front was news to me - I asked "Why would I pay you before you worked for me" His response was "It is in your contract! You must pay now. Cash." He thrust some papers into my hand and said 'Go read it - or we can go and keep your stuff." He then walked away, towards the truck cab. As I read, I saw the part he mentioned about pre-payment. As I said to his colleague "I see it now, in the papers, okay. We'll do that." As the driver approached again, Jennifer asked "Are you giving us a receipt of payment? Or do we video the transaction? So far we have no reason to trust you."

It was then the driver went into a rage. The driver said - and I quote, this is literally what he said, "You can give me my money or I will go away with your stuff. I am from New Jersey and i have no problem just driving away, you can call police if you want" and as he said that, he puffed up his chest at me and moved over to within about 2" of my body. The guy actually puffed-up as if he was going to fight me. I told him to settle down and give us SOMETHING that says we paid him - we don't give that kind of money to someone without evidence. He continued to shout in my face as I kept trying to hand him the money, about 'No video!" and "I just leave now! I dont care." Suddenly, the driver grew angrier and shouted at me to stop being aggressive. The irony was palatable. He agreed to sign the side of the moving documents as we signed and paid him. I signed each after writing 'duress' ahead of my signature because this felt like a shake-down. The driver started walking to the storage unit, seemingly counting his steps, before coming back saying "This is more than 50 feet, I charge you $100 extra!" When I asked how he knew it was more than SEVENTY-FIVE feet (per the contract) his answer was "If you want to measure, that's fine, but just know if you measure and it comes out more I will charge you TWICE that amount!" Then he offered "And the pick-up crew screwed you. He charged you for 1400 cubic feet but I know you do not have maybe 900. He fucked you over - he is not a good guy, He is a fucking bad guy."

Finally he took the money and they got to work - as they were about half done, with Jennifer tracking boxes near the truck and me in the storage unit, the driver said to Jennifer - out of the blue - "Why don't you smile?"

This move - at least this half - felt like giving thousands of dollars to strangers to be verbally assaulted, nearly battered, and made to feel like I worked for the people I was paying. Not ONE ounce of humility, understanding, and reprehensible "customer service". To the question of the cubic feet we moved...I cannot really tell. As-is, the stuff sits in a storage unit capable of holding 2000 cubic feet. Because of the odd shapes - or maybe because the driver planted the idea in my head, but it looks to be 1/2 to 2/3rds full - in volume. My military math says that's about 1000-1300 cubic feet, but really impossible to know unless I measured stuff with a tape. I feel like I should not have to do that kind of work - I do not want to have to double-check to ensure I am not being taken advantage of. I do not want to have to talk to unstable people and have to use psychological training to find ways to de-escalate a situation, especially a situation I paid, in total, more than a month's worth of take-home pay to be put into. I spent all those thousands for a pick-up crew who may have overestimated my move size and a delivery driver who was nasty and threatening and rude and bush-league - I paid them to treat me like shit. I am not into that kinda stuff. "

Anyone care to organize a trail run? Day or overnight thing? I could use a vacation.

Speaking of - and as a wild aside - Lately i've been digging into safaris for a birthday trip in december. Anyone been and have suggestions? I hit 50 this year and wanted to do something neat - something abroad and at least half adventurous. Bonus points for South America (as I need to set-foot on that continent). I am thinking the trip will be a safari (though i've been to africa) or machu picchu.

    That sounds terrible.
Sorry I have no advice to offer you that you’ve not already done. Maybe add that to a google review if you can. That’s not how people should be treated.
@crazyfingers is usually the one going out the most on runs. The I think @RedDeadTaco and @Majora do things as well. There is an organized AOAA trip in October that @TwistedTLM4 is putting together. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/6th-annual-aoaa-invasion-october-14-16-2022.742560/
