Highlander is a solid fam transport choice. All the conveniences/features of a minivan without being a minivan.

Been trying to convince the wife to entertain one, or a new breed Pilot, for her next rig…She’s a hard no so far. 4Runner without question :notsure:

Aside from the taco-like fuel mileage its not a huge issue as I’ve always wanted a 4runner too :gossip:

Welp, I broke a spoke today so got to try out two things I’ve been meaning to; muc-off tubeless tape and the Conti Kryptotal.
First impressions are that the tape is great. Easy to apply, slightly stretchy, nailed the tackiness, looks good and perfect width.
The tires are definitely interesting. Slightly lighter than what I usually run (a few pointless grams). But look really good in person, slightly easier to set on the rim, muuuuuuuch easier to seat up at pressure. Tread looks solid. Apex insert is very noticeable when squeezing the tire.

Super pink on the roll, mostly transparent off. Cool effect.

    Perfect width for 30mm internal.

    Two laps.

Apex bead is stiff. Should help a lot with pinch flats and stability.

The tread looks great. Excellent pattern, knob shapes, and siping.

Stoked on these. Might actually try the Krptotal front to replace the Assegai when it’s time.

Which width tape did you go with for 30mm internal? The topic has timing…

30mm. But they have a bunch of widths that fit your intended rim.

Hoping tomorrow morning, but little man has has a rough day, so we’ll see.
TBH, I’m not as picky about rear tires. The aggressor doesn’t brake that great here (dust and loose), the dhr2 works great but expensive and hard to find at times in DD terra, HR2 is good but doesn’t last long, assegai is a pig but great on the ebike, every WTB has been shredded in no time, schwalbe have been great but $$$.
Front tires, the Assegai in DD grip is all time. Predictable and feels great. Mary has been good to me too, but not great in hard pack.

I finally got my wife to drive a 19 Highlander and she loved it. The 4Runners look “cooler” but to me ride like poo. I don’t want an suv that rides like a truck, I have a truck for that. She finally saw the light.

Super valid points! The wife has never test driven a 4runner, nor have I, so we both are going purely off aesthetic preferences.

I actually had a Highlander for a week or so several years ago (coulda been a 2019??) as a loaner while my Tacoma was getting some recall work done. It was crazy nice, and was a pleasure to drive. The wife loved most all things about it as well…aside from how it looked

The rim I need to retape is 30mm internal. This will be my first taping experience. I’d read a recommendation to go wider than your internal width by a few mm. Seems like many tape options just from 30 on up to ~35mm.

Been up near Purgatory Resort this week. A few rides throughout the week, but I missed a good ride around Engineer Mountain with a friend my daughter introduced me to. Dang I gotta plan better on these trips for a ride like what he went on! The views are spectacular around here, every where you turn.

We drove up through Silverton to Ouray for the day, everywhere you look, places to go off and ride it seemed! I was wishing I had the Tacoma or FJ with me to go explore! And this was one of the many spectacular views! I’ll get back up here soon for a backcountry ride of some sort!

I like to use the width that is as close to the internal as possible. The Zipps are 30mm internal and the tape fit perfect.
If you've never taped before, this might help... Start 2-3 spokes before the valve hole, lay down about 3 inches at a time, stretch it out (pull) when you lay it on, push it down with your thumb on the sides and middle before you lay more, put down two layers, go back over the whole wheel and push on the tape to seal it up, end 2-3 spokes after the valve hole, use a phillips to punch out the hole from the tape side. Occasionally I use a hair dryer to warm up the tape a bit and push it down, but the MucOff didn't need it. It was sticky enough to seat, but also not too sticky if you needed to pull it up if you lay it down weird., also didn't stick to itself.
    Good luck, be patient!

Man, Ouray and Silverton area is stunning. Never ridden out there on my bike, but it's a gorgeous. It's also a HUGE area, and makes you feel tiny.
