It takes a little work but they are worth it if you want to get on harder trails. Hell, even for easier trails they are better. The only place they suck is the highway but 5.29's mostly solves that problem.

From what I understand the skinny 35s are easier to fit and require less trimming. Kenda Klever 35x10.50R17 or the Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT 255/85R17 (35x10.00R17) both are 34.6" I think. My research has all been for 3rd gen but the same alignment advise applies. Rear cam set to push the LCA out and front cam set to bring it in to give clearance from the firewall and cab mount. Then set SPC to a forward position E or F to reduce the actual caster and it moves the spindle a tiny bit forward as well. CMC and pinch weld and maybe fender trimming. First gens are SICK on 35s since they are so much smaller than 2nd and 3rd gen.

@Buttskevin21 just posed 49K miles on the Kendas, and just went thru the Rubicon with them.

This was a really good post on alignment specs:

Whoop whoop! Yeah the tires are a champ, they have never been the problem when I cant make it up something/get stuck, its always the low breakover angle :rofl:I'm running stock gears, dont mind it at all but I do have a large tranny cooler with a fan to keep the tranny happy on the trail.

I backed up the alignment tabs by welding them.

Need to install the alignment cam eliminators
    Re-boot the CVs
    Install new LCA bushings
    And install the LCA skids
    Tomorrow.

Then, hopefully I'll start the body lift tomorrow. Once I get the BL done I'm thinking about using Jen's 35s to clearance.

Clearance for 35's without the body lift. Cut at least 1/2" more then you "think" you need. Then put on the body lift and 37's. lol

Was thinking, if I'm going to clearance, then take out the coilovers and remove the bumps, and cut 1/2 more than I need.

You may be on to something... Who wants ta see El Taco Diablo on dirty 7s?

That is the way. Put a trans jack under the wheel and lift the rig. Then start clearances. I made a template out of a piece of cardboard on the passenger side once I was happy with the cut. Then I moved the template over to the drivers side. That keeps both cuts as close to the same as your gonna get. I don't have a body lift. I could fit 37's if I put a 1" BL on. There still gonna rub the frame with 3.5" BS wheels but it's only at full lock. My 35's take paint off the front of the frame already. lol

I've always said 35s is as big as I'll go on this one.

But now I'm thinking 37s is going to be as big as I go. lol

I'd really rather be running RCV if I go 37, but they don't do Toyota, manual, shafts. Maybe I need to do Solo spindles with D44 hubs. (Damn, there really is no bottom to this hole I throw money in)

    If anyone is interested.

Hughson Tire has a set of lighly used 285/70R17 BFG Ko2s for 700 bucks.

They came off the shop owner's truck after about 3000 miles. I know him personally, he's a legit dude. If he says 3K miles, it's true.

We had some friends drop by last night and we decided to head up that way and say Hi. Ran the trail backwards with the hope to get to HBH and turn around. Didn’t quite make it, but it was still a nice drive. A bit of smoke was working it’s way north east. Hope you have some good camp time.
