Depends on the overall design I think but a turbo usually results in more maintenance. My old boss had a 6.0 power stroke and it was in the shop multiple times for turbo related problems. Turbo replacement, leaks in piping things like that.

6 doesn’t have extra parts that need to be cooled and oiled? FI doesn’t have higher compression it has higher cylinder pressure

I had a Toyota 86 with a boxer engine. Modders would put turbos on this engine that came from the factory with 13:1 compression and wondered why they kept throwing rods.

i question whether the power grid is able to support even a 1/3 of the people in the immediate area owning EV's in most areas.

It does have higher compression as the FI increases the volume of air being compressed, compression ratio as it pertains to cylinder dimensions is a different thing.

Supply and demand is different in every square mile of the US. WHere I'm at i'm on nuclear power and have very good infrastructure and lots of EVs around. Never had any issues with outages from EV car charging.

But you shouldn't use turbos on high compression engines. Cylinder pressures are varied through the compression cycle. That's why turbo engines can have higher power output on 87 octane gas.

Again your conflating compression, as in the physical act of making a specific volume of something smaller, with compression ratio as it pertains to cylinder dimensions.

I have a res for a Rivian but would really love a Tacoma EV. Rivian wants to be Tesla and I don't necessarily want a luxury EV with no tactile control and everything on a screen, etc. But still pretty stoked for it... in 2023.

I was just talking with a coworker about this today. What’s the resale on an ev with say 150-175k on the clock considering battery degradation and knowing a 15,000 dollar replacement could be just around the corner.

The switch to EV is the best time for automakers to stop with all the infortainment garbage. Save the vehicle’s electricity by not wasting it on this stuff. My phone does better at infotainment than a vehicle ever will. All I need the computer in a vehicle to do is take care of the vehicle. Tire pressure, error codes, maintenance schedules, that’s it.

Yes, eventually. There really isn't going to be a choice in the near future. Honestly, this short term thinking needs to stop.

Considering modern EVs will last anywhere from 300k-500k? Eventually I will buy a used EV, but not quite yet.

Also, What do you expect the maintenance costs for an ICE car/truck to be over it's lifetime, 15k-20K? This argument doesn't really hold up.
