    Morning Chas

    Morning Scott

:pccoffee: Good Morning SA! It's amazing that 103* isn't as hot as 106*! I bought one of those ArcticChill mini-swamp coolers yesterday, to torture it in the garage. No, it's not AC, but darned if it doesn't make a difference. I have to work with the door closed today, so I'll give it a little more test.

Uh, I have no place for such a thing. Literally. Nor, the need to spend that much for the garage.
I have our old sunroom AC still in the wall, and there is no place for that. And it's free.

This is 12"x12", and setting it to blow across the breeze from the box fan on the ceiling is pretty good for $35!

    Morning gents :hattip:

Had a good night out with the wife last night. The Van Gogh immersive experience was pretty nice. A little pricey for what it was, but still don't regret going. They keep the crowd to a minimum so you get to enjoy it without someone right next to you. The only annoying thing is seeing people record the whole show through they're cell phones . Definitely a different experience if you're into art. We enjoyed it and the wife appreciated that I actually planned something:notsure::D.

    Y'all have a good Sunday

Hi, ya'll. I'm the one posted a few days ago requesting info on mechanic that could install tow pckg for my (stock) 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road, v6, double cab, short bed, auto transmission. What sparked that was some initial reading that these trucks can pull "up to 6800 - "when properly equipped with optimal towing packages." All the dealership web sites say that. So, we will call me - Clueless with my new TRD. Turns out, I finally just went into Universal Toyota, the service agent pulled one of their "master Toyota mechanics" who basically said to me, Dude, you already have those components in your TRD Off-Road. He said to me, just stay within the parameters of the GCWR, GVWR, TWR tables in your manual and you'll be fine, doesn't matter if you tow it to the lake or Maine. That was my initial concern, I'm going to be pulling a 4,200 - 4,500 lb travel trailer to Maine and back (about 5,000 miles). I was looking on Amazon for tranny coolers. He says to me, you don't want to do that. These TRD transmissions are engineered to work within a certain range of temp with a special synthetic fluid. He says, if you cool them down below that optimal operating temp, you're going to damage something. So, I'm relieved, after learning what GCWR, GVWR, TWR means and looking in my manual - my GRN305L-PRTSHA will tow that camper trailer to Maine and back. I said, so if the tranny overheats, I'll get a warning light? Yes, he says, but I've never seen that happen. This model even has the electric brake controller prewired with a connector visible under my left knee.

He says, just don't use the overdrive and you'll use 5th gear on the highway instead of the automatic 6th gear your truck falls into on the highway. So, I found the "ECT Power" button, apparently that is the overdrive. I've never used it, don't have a clue what it does. But, I can read up on that. I'll just never push that button. I do see the "ECT" lights up on the dash when I push it. I've also read don't use the cruise control.

    Q. Here's the really clueless part. So, how to tow? (1) Do I put the truck in (D)rive and then on the highway, before it shifts to 6th gear, I manually slip it into 5th. The mechanic says, don't worry about 2,500 - 3,000 rpm. OR, (2) do I use manual shifting all the time. That seems like a hassle, moving through 1 - 5 up and down all the time. But, I can do that if that's how it works. OR, (3) do I put it in 5th gear manual, and the truck will automatically shift through 1 - 5 on its own. Told you I was clueless with my new TRD.

I've also looked around and see that this brake controller might be nice (Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller) on Amazon, but I don't think I want to install it. So, anyone know a shop that installs the electronics in these trucks. The mechanic said any trailer outlet will do it, mentioned one on San Pedro. I find Alamo Trucks on San Pedro, but no trailer outlet. So, the other questions is where is a good shop that will install that brake controller, or different one if advised. Thanks, ya'll - Clueless. I really am clueless about my truck, I just bought it because I was tired of everyone else looking kewl :)

Nice, truck. I'd still recommend upgrading the rear leaf packs. The brake controller is easy, plug in play/ install the controller, hide the wire harness, plug into the harness into truck, maybe add a ground wire.

We have family up in ME, what's up that way?

Real Estate that my wife is looking at ..
I'm going to explore the rear leaf packs

I do like the truck, owned a Tacoma little one 4 cylinder long time back. Thought I'd go for the fancier one.

Dude... if your local in San Antonio I'll show you where to put your brake controller. Don't pay or waste money for someone to "install" it. Just buy whatever controller you want as well as the harness adapter for the toyota

    Converse, pretty local :)

I looked at a YouTube video on installing that controller, but the guy was pulling off part of the dash, at which point, me says .. nope, ain't doing that. I have changed the oil myself, yes, twice before the 10k Toyota wanted. Just couldn't get my head around going 10k on a new truck without some kind of oil change .. Yes, the parts person grinned at me and said, you know, these things don't need an oil change until 10k.

It's pretty simple and you really shouldn't have to pull out the dash if your familiar. I'll be in the converse/kirby area this week to check on one of my houses. PM your number and I can help you out.

I got 3 hogs coming regularly, one is a pretty big boar, don't think I would clean/eat that one. The other 2 are good sized for keeping.

Well, shirts! They don't provide many measurements, but this seems like one that's pretty much a given...
How far from garage wall to mounting area for the motor?
    Looked like I had enough...

I temped the bar up, and I need another foot! So, off comes two of the " fix later" panels, and made supports, and and just painted the stuff before it goes up tomorrow.

    Glad I'm a patient old .....
