Got an email from Off Road Alliance that my order status has changed. The tracking information was just created so nothing showing on tracking information yet. For reference I ordered a EVO Sport short bed on November 29th 2021.
I’m planning on heading to Colorado and Utah at the very end of the month and assumed my cap wouldn’t arrive in time or more than likely arrive after I left. Now I’m hoping it arrives in time for me to install it. Looking out the window now impatiently.

 

So I got a text message today from the shipping company saying my Sport will be delivered this Thursday between 11a and 4p. To say I’m a little excited would be an understatement. I have gone back through most of this thread looking for little tips and tricks people have had for installing their caps. I’m sure I’ve missed something.
I’ve also watched about every YouTube video I could find even the TSI ones.
I know the box will include instruction manuals, but if you have a tip or trick for better success I am all ears. I plan on getting everything put together so if/when I get some extra help it will be all ready to lift on the truck. I work night shift so my schedule never coincides with anyone else’s.
I can’t find the video to link it but one guy used Gorilla Glue Putty to completely close up the two gaps at the front of the bed. Nearest the cab on both the driver and passenger sides. I don’t recall that ever being mentioned in this thread.
A lot of people here and on some of the videos mentioned the torque values listed in the instructions were not to be followed. Most people have tightened until they see metal bend then back off. Still the recommendation?
Also I have seen in videos a C clamp used to secure the cap to the bed and another version using the accessory rail that is already in the 3rd Gen Tacoma.
The third brake light is also an area of concern. One guy drilled a hole in the bed near the corner and another snaked the wires through the top cap of the bed before the cap was on.
I know I should just wait until it gets here, but I wanted to be prepared in advance. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

 

mine is mounted using the rails.

 

• Get the LED lights from Matt Gecko - https://mattgeckoleds.com/shop/ols/...ht-kit-with-bed-mounted-switch/v/RSI-G3-SB-CW
• Seal up those front holes with butyl tape, gorilla glue putty, etc. ASAP
• You need at least 3 guys to put the cap on after assembly, 4 is easier.
• Place the cap where you want it, don't slide it on or you'll screw up the seal
• test if the tailgate will lower with the shell closed before you bolt it down (it doesn't like the tailgate being closed up with the shell closed due to the seals)
• torque it down to specs, I did and it works fine. You'll attach to the accessory rail
• buy the tie downs, put them in the bolt holes in the roof of the shell and then you can get a cargo net for attic storage:

• a deadfall mallet and a 2x4 will be your friend when putting the pieces together.

 

Mikes custom toys took final payment for my smartcap yesterday. Hoping I should see it soon. I have been seeing a few people have theirs arrive. Has anyone dealt with MCT and would you have an idea on a delivery timeline after final deposit has been paid?

 

MCT took final payment for my EVOa 6' cap on the 5th of July, with a note it should ship soon. Yesterday Mike informed me their shipment of caps was being checked in and they should start shipping by the end of the week and he'd follow up with tracking when it does. Mike's been very quick to respond with updates so I'll let you know how quickly it arrives after it ships.

 

I paid my final deposit to them on 7/5 . I was told late July/early August ship date

 

Mine showed up today. Wasn’t supposed to be here until tomorrow. Wife’s going to be pissed when she gets home and her side of the garage is blocked. Better get to work. Thanks for the replies everyone.

 

Mine is also a 6' EVOa. He told me yesterday that they would start shipping soon. I was trying to get a handle on how "soon" but it sounds like we are all in the hands of the shippers

 

They are processing the containers faster than expected. However domestic trucking has been a real Joke as far as sticking to their timelines. We have had some shipments sit at blind cross docks for two weeks without any movement.

Having said that we still have 2 5ft sports left on this shipment and 5 5ft adventures.

Anyone have good side shots of their cap on a long bed 3rd Gen?

 

Who know’s where we can buy/order a new latch assembly. Mine is no longer clamping tight, the outter latch opens too far. I assume something is F’d.

I don’t have access to a receipt as our filing cabinet is in storage during a home Reno.

Who did you buy it from? They may have records. To fill a warranty claim.
