I have a TRD OR 2019 with the halogen lights..I swap the headlight for the original LED headlights and replace my stock fog lights with Diode Dynamic SS3…never look back..it’s worth the money..if you can buy the truck with the LED system is better option

I've had my Morimoto XB LED Headlights V2 installed for just over a year now. No issues so far. It was $1200 when I bought it but the price has gone up since then.

I should mention that The Retrofit Source (Morimoto) sent me 2 sets for the price of 1 on accident... and they're known to make that mistake every once in a while.

AlphaRex is not a legitimate headlight at all. Don’t throw away your money like that. It is all foreground light and no distance light, which is exactly the opposite of how a headlight is supposed to work.

I could be wrong but I think when they were first offered a few years ago they only were optioned with a tech package of some sort for sport / OR trims. To get the LED’s package you had to buy the other stuff too.
I haven’t kept up with the packages since 2016 and might be different if you build one to spec vs buying one off the lot that has the upgrade. Might have changed for 21-22-23 where you don’t have to buy those packages.

either way OP I’ve upgraded both my trucks to OEM LED’s and very happy with them

you're right in that sense, I'm pretty sure Toyota do NOT build a bare bone TRD Sport/Off-Road just with the LED lighting package.
It usually comes with Tech package, or Premium and Advanced Tech.

Cool. I wasn’t 100% but good to know.

I think it just might be best to say instead of it being only $500 option you have to upgrade the base worth a few thousand to have the added option of spending another $500 to get it.

that last part is a little wordy

re-reading it, it still is a $500 option though either way you look at it

The OEM LED headlights are really nice, but I really don't like that the running lights are white. There are several dark sites I go to for either camping or astronomy, and general practice is to approach at night with yellow running lights as to not blind everyone who is dark adapted.

White running lights are a real PITA in this scenario and it does not go over well. I may mount some magnets on some colored transparency film so I can just cover them up.

Also, I have my doubts about the life of the "sequential" turn signals. Only time will tell.

Mine is probably the cheapest way to get into LED headlights, only additional factory package (FIO) was Tech Package, even that is still cheaper than buying OEM LED to retrofit

If you are handy at all you can very easily install the headlights yourself. I did mine in about 45 minutes one day after work. I did not fully remove the front bumper and had no issues getting the old lights out or the new ones in.

Oh that is a really excellent point. Tucson, where I live, is a Dark Sky city with excellent night sky visibility and one of my intentions with the new truck is to drive out into the desert to stargaze more often. I hadn’t thought about how white/bright the running lights might be. Do you have any particular product in mind to potentially alter yours for this purpose? I’ll search through the forums and see if anyone talks about this.

I’ve got holds on 2 trucks, both Off-Roads with tech package, 1 with LED headlights and 1 without. One has been stuck in limbo at the port for a long time with no info and no ETA; the other is scheduled to be built in a few weeks. We’ll see which gets delivered first.

Glad to have a better understanding and more info about options if I end up without the LED headlights and need to install afterward.
