Gonna get into this over the weekend. I couldn’t find a rubber grommet that was actually 4” - the store said it was, but it’s actually 4.5.

for those who have done this, I’m thinking to just use some weather stripping for the firewall. Do you think that will work?

I also considered using the oversized grommet with weather stripping inside. My only concern there is the whole will be cut pretty big if I ever want to go back and change the seal.

I found it fits best if you cut off the rounded side

Not sure what grommet you are talking about.
But what I can say is get a soft foam/rubber seal. I got some fender trim rubber stuff and it's still too hard. I can hear the tube rubbing/hitting the seal. Pretty annoying.
The paint on my pipe is rubbing off in certain areas. I added some lube on the seal and it helped.

I got a rubber coupling. similar to this

    https://www.amazon.ca/POWERTEC-7014...t=&hvlocphy=9001544&hvtargid=pla-451288883468

but its not 4inch ID more like 4.5. I was going to possibly use a piece of foam weather stripping inside that to take up some space. but not sure I wanna cut a hole that big for something that might need to be changed out in the future.

I'm super happy with mine. I did the 4" to 3" elbow to a 3" straight silicone tube thinking the silicone won't heat soak as much as metal :fingerscrossed:. They are coupled with a piece of 3" SS exhaust drop. I used regular old black edge guard from autozone for the hole. Sounds decent when I get on the throttle.

Yeah, I did not do any of the sound dampening methods, there is just a bit louder of a growl when getting on the throttle, love it!

Tried to do this today and failed horribly. Not sure how people fit the elbow in. I couldn’t get mine onto the air box with room for the aluminum tube to sleeve in. Relegated to the rebuild of shame.

I used a silicone tube for the length of the ducting, but had some contact still with the intake "horn" that I attached to the end of it.

With the intake horn, I didn't really need the hole to be well sealed to keep engine bay air out of the intakes, so I was able to use just a few (3-5) patches of heavy duty stick-on furniture felt to pad the spaces in between the intake and the edges of the hole in the bulkhead.

all silicone would be ideal but I couldn't find straight pieces of it, only elbows. any chance you could post some pictures of what you're meaning by intake horn and the felt spacers? super intrigued but cant quite picture it. thanks

Here's a link to the Amazon page for the intake horn that I used. Not sure where to get something similar now (Summit Racing is always a good source for parts).

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012T3QDII

I don't have any pics handy of the felt, but I just had a 3"x5" pad of heavy stick-on felt from HD, and I cut some bits maybe 1/2"x3/4" and stuck them at several points around the rim of the assembly where there was metal-to-metal contact between the horn and the hole in the panel. With 4-5 points covered, there wasn't much room left for anything to move around.
