Do you even think when you're cracking open another cold one? Of course you don't. The truck holds 6.5 quarts to be considered full. Open up the 7th quart and save it for next time. Or change your lawn mower oil.

Once your at 6 qts, your 95% full imo. I think another 8 oz., or so is max.

The service dept. I take my truck to the service manager told me they only put 6 quarts in even though it calls for 4ozs. more. Not only my truck but every car.truck/suv that calls for 6.2 or 6.4.

I caught them this past May trying to charge me for 7 quarts which I tightened their ass up on that real quick. He takes my paperwork in the back and reprints the service details so it read 6 quarts. He thanked me for catching that and said it was a computer error. (Yeah right) Just think of all the people that are unknowingly paying for that extra quart when they are not even putting the extra 4ozs. of oil in the engine.

I'm taking my own 6 quarts of oil and filter this next May when I have them change my oil. I want to see the price difference. He said that the service would be priced differently if I bring my own oil/filter.

Mix to max on the dipstick is approximately one quart. So 85% up the dipstick is about spot-on for 6 qts.

On my old tundra it took the same amount of oil as this tacoma. I just added 6 qts and ran the engine a few seconds to circulate it, than let it sit for a couple minutes before checking the dipstick, while adding a few more oz's. this i got the dipstick reading the oil between the 2 dots, or full lines.

I would rather my oil be under full by 4 ozs. than over filled.

I live in the projects and the housing authority does not allow working on vehicles out in the parking lot or you can bet your ass I would change my own.

The 85% filled is with the oil cold I presume. At operating temperature it might be right a the full level.

FYI, there’s 1.6 quarts between the upper and lower dipstick marks. 85% would mean you are only 8 oz below the full line.

Why not sand off the factory marks on your dipstick, then engrave a new ‘full’ mark at your present level? That would be a win/win.

The last time I chinzed on oil fill when I was 16 years old driving my 65 VW bug. I ended up burning a valve. I should have kept that bug!

The price difference will be the same minus the oil. There is already a set price for the service we just right the oil and filter as customer provided but the service price is the same. You don’t really save enough to matter but sometimes people feel better about it. It’s also the standard to keep it just below the max line to account for expansion. It’s it topped all the way to the line we consider it overfilled. Not sure about the overcharge unless someone just entered it wrong in the system but I know at a point they round up but I don’t know exactly where that is. This kind of stuff is decided at corporate levels and I personally couldn’t care less because it has nothing to do with my job. I know if it comes off the shelf and a seventh one gets opened then you bought the whole qt. We have a couple different kinds we keep around for the oil snobs. Amsoil, redline royal purple. Some people take the leftover some don’t. We have to hand it to you though we can’t put an open oil container in the rig because if it spilt then the Karen would say they didn’t want it in there and we would end up paying for a full detail. Some people are super cool but the majority are mostly pieces of shit.

it actually depends on what oil you're using. weight, type and brand. and what filter brand.

The oil dipstick for my truck has holes, not marks, for the lower and upper marks.

Not sure if your serious...cause my '19 dipstick is almost impossible to read. Perhaps they made a change to the dipstick design?
