Price brand new ones and you'll understand why.

Every so often I come across an FJR1300 that the owner sold the saddlebags for because they never used them or preferred the clean look of no bags. That's fine right up until they want to trade in or sell their bike and either have to take a pretty substantial hit on sale price or trade in or worse yet have a really hard time selling it because the majority of owners want the bags.

Question for the guys with dual sports (tube related); is there a way to seal the rim so you can use tubless tires? I'd really like to look into getting a dual sport, but I've never had a bike that used tube tires, and it sounds like a real pain. Plus, many times I ride in rural areas where there's no one around. I've gotten flats before, but I always carry a plug kit and some CO2 cartridges. I'm able to get the tire repaired well enough to safely ride home.

    Any ideas?

Almost forgot, on our way home this weekend I passed the 10k miles mark since January 1 for the FJR! Soon going to turn 42k miles. Almost broken in.

You can seal the rim using a variety of methods and run tubeless tires. Also a setup called tubliss that works. Tubes aren’t that bad, just annoying sometimes. Often it’s easier to patch a punctured tube than to plug a tire.

I was just looking into this yesterday. This seems to work for most people. I just haven't been able to find out if the 300 Rally factory wheels have safety beads.

I've seen many FJRs with well over 100,000 miles on them; a number of them at over 200,000 miles. Yours is nowhere near broken in!

UHD tubes, set it and forget it.

Sounds like a mostly street dual sport, and if that's the case those suckers melt. Not to mention they shrink over time.

Agreed, tubes can be annoying but if you play in the rocks at all I would go with a tube vs a non tube all day. It's funny I talk to my neighbor who rides more street and deals with punctures all the time because of road debris, but I yeet the bike off a bunch of rocks and into a tree and my bikes tires are fine.

Bib mousse is best if you play in the rocks every day, and never end up on the street. Not good at all for a traditional dual sport rider.

    From RMATV:

    • Michelin Bib Mousse is a foam product that eliminates the use of conventional tubes. No pulled stems, no punctures, no pinched tubes and most of all no flats.
    • Ensures a pressure equivalent to 13 psi. Estimated service life is 6 months after installation, depending upon severity of use.
    • Should be used in off-road conditions only, maximum speed is 80 mph. Not to exceed 20 miles on hard surfaces at top speeds.
Basically whether you use the bike or not they need to be replaced every 6 months because they shrink.

alright yea we on the same page

the only thing I was not that aware of is the shrinkage, from the reviews I have seen on youtube there are guys out there competing using the same mousse after replacing tires

had seen in some cases 12+ months and 3+ rear tires all on the same mousse

not all mousses are the same though obviously

I'm sure like anything they can be pushed. Is it recommended? Nah but people do shit that is not recommended all the time.

My 2007 had 127k on it when it got taken out by an inattentive driver so I'm quite familiar with how durable they are!

Nice! Did you ever remove the centerstand to lube all the pivot points? I think you can get to all but one. I've seen guys make hoists/frames to support the bike, but I've not done it yet. My 08 only has 21,000 on it. I'm going to be upgrading the forks this winter and getting a new shock.

Yes, I've done that on both bikes actually. My 2007 went too long without doing it and I ended up buying another relay arm off eBay and servicing that then installing it. I ran a Gen 3 OEM shock on the '07 and that was a big improvement and also upgraded front fork springs to HyperPro springs and deleted the middle bushing. On my 2014 I snagged a used Penske rear shock, sent it to Penske for rebuild and appropriate spring, then installed it at same time I serviced relay arm and center stand. Are you on FJRiders.com forum by any chance? Forum members often have tech days and get together to do stuff like that. Where are you located?

Yeah Bob's BMW has them at $1300 or so for OEM BMW cases. You can get off-brand fleabay ones for around $900.

I spent a lot of time last night looking at Adventure Spec's Magadan MK.3 soft bags. I'm extremely tempted.

I'm not on any of the FJR forums. I'll have to look into it. I'm in IL.
