Nonetheless, and I asked him to do this, but he should still reach out to Magnuson to get their 04B82 copy of the tune for his truck.

I actually ask everyone who applies the ECU update to do this regardless of how smoothly the process goes, just so they have it available. They paid for it, they should have it even if they never use it again.

So trying to flash the Stock tune as a test isn't working?

seems as though the OBD device / computer cannot now connect to the ECU and start only cranks. @reymataco please describe and converse with @tonered.

Dang. I know that helped some folks when the Recovery didn't.

    I saw @mZiggy 's post.

I feel that a bench flash will sort it out, but I was hoping for a final, easier option.

It might also be worth trying to flash or Recover with another vF person, if possible? Just to eliminate any computer or Tactrix possibilities.

    Background:

he is trying to go from 04B81 (Magnuson tune) to 04B82 + Stryker tune

He flashed back to stock 04B81, then used the most recent 04B82 CUW TSB file for his truck. then started the truck, everything was good. This was not the updated Magnuson Tune - then he shut off the truck and put it back into accessory mode and flashed the Stryker tune. After seeing the "successful" message he tired to start the truck - it won't start, just cranks. Now the ODB2 serial device can't talk to the truck either. So he can't try to reflash. vfTuner says the device is not connected or the truck is not in accessory mode.

Have you tried connecting to the truck with techstream again?

i had one truck I couldn’t get to flash after trying everything out there, but tried connecting with techstream and for some reason it worked.. then I was able to flash with vF

it was super weird. Not sure if it’ll help but just another idea I’ve seen work.

Thanks for the input - all information is appreciated and welcome.

Not sure if he has tried that. Gonna give him a call and see what the status is, and if schedules align go over to assist. Was also wondering if he can get .vft to launch (software thing); or if his Tactrix device took a dump; or if the pins of the device got damaged; disconnect battery too. a few possibilities to consider before removal of the ecu for a bench flash if all else fails.

That is why a second setup (yours?) can be a quick verification of that. Since his VIN is Unlocked, flashing would be fair game for anyone.

    Hey folks,
The love and support is overwhelming. I got members calling me yesterday and first thing this morning asking if they can help. What a great community, indeed.

TL;DR - I think a low voltage event occurred during the last step applying the Stryker tune.

    History:
    Magnuson tune on 04B81
    Reset to 04B81
TSB *.cuw file to go to 04B82
Confirmed post flash, ECU reads 04B82
Start the truck, it runs ok, just doesn't have knowledge that the SC is there.
Flash the Stryker tune, progress bar finishes, success popup says Success, turn off IG and start the truck.
Unplug the cable, set the laptop aside
Climb in to start the truck, but it won't start, it just cranks.
VFTuner/Tactrix can't talk to the ECU anymore

    So some updates:

The Tactrix cable pins are in good order. The two in the middle along the longer row are longer than all the other pins. This is also true on my VFTuner branded ODB2 serial device (which was only used once by RSG when installing the SC).
But the VFTuner program 1.6.x sees the cable just fine. The program won't work with the other VFTuner branded ODB2 serial device because its not registered to that device's ID.

When trying to apply the last step, flashing the Stryker tune, the battery voltage was like 11.9 so it wouldn't begin the flash. That is part of the reason I started the truck (thus verifying the flash up to 04B82 stock was ok). I only ran the truck for a couple minutes so it was probably just not enough to survive the intercooler/water exchange pump demand during the flash?

I also have a hood mounted solar panel but the blue sea breaker is default to disconnected so that wasn't in play at the time (but should have been).

Next steps are to see if TechStream 16 can talk to the ECU still.
If it can, I will try the baseline flash back to 04B80 since that is what my truck originally shipped with. And the latest *.cuw TSB file will take 80 or 81 and bring them to 82.
If it can't see the ECU then I will try Gen 2 force flash of the same baseline 04B80 file.

Else, remove the ECU and hope @MGMSangTaco is available. I could make a bench setup from my second ODB2 device, but who's got time for that sh*t when you're on TW but are supposed to be at work! :bananadead:

    Keep us updated.

However, WRT Techstream you will not be able to return to 04B80 or 81, since the update to 82 was applied. Techstream does not support ECU ID reversion. As such, flashing a 04B80/81 stock file is not an option either.

    Mine is the same.

11.9V is plenty good. It is when it dips into the 10s that you need to worry, but we have seen a few folks that got hoarked up by the coolant pump. Startup draw is always short, but always more than constant draw. That may have dipped it down enough.

You do not need to disassemble your spare Tactrix to make a bench flash setup. Just some good jumpers.

What @mZiggy said. You are now 04B82 no matter what.

Good to know. The very first thing I did yesterday in an attempt to recover the ECU, was attempt to flash the 89663-04B82.vfc file with VFTuner ECU Flash function. No joy.

    Sounds like its:

    1) connect with TechStream
    2) if that works, force flash gen 2 on the 89663-04B82.vfc stock tune, then flash the YW-Stryker.vft tune.

    or

    1) connect with TechStream
    2) if that works, force flash gen 2 with the YW-Stryker.vft tune.

You may want to use an external power supply/battery tender to keep your voltage high enough during the flash. The draw from your pump may be too much (especially after a slow TSB update and flash) and dragged you down to lower than what you thought you saw. I know someone on here found that you cannot pull the fuse, so that's out of the question. Maybe others with the SC have an idea?
