Welllllll.....the EPA gave it a 292 highway range and no one runs them empty so realistically probably 250-275 under ideal conditions but weather impacts range as well as your foot so here in Colorado 250 makes more sense. My 6 our drive to Moab every year turns into 32 hours due to charging (13 hour charge to full) and I can't take a day trip to see my family family because I have to charge up some place.

    Oh look, another mod....

    ^This.

I think Rivian, Lucid and a few others will get gobbled up by Tesla or one of the big three wanting to adopt their ideas as their own.

Why the hell would you charge to full? That isn’t how you road trip with an EV. You want to stay in the ‘meaty’ part of the charging curve. You’ll spend as much time charging from 20-80% as you do from 80-100%.

have you seen the rivian fleet vans being rolled out already??

ford and toyota will do fine

gm will prob survive on gov contracts and suck and just about everything else (i love ls motors ok so get off my back)

having now been in a rivian and a tesla multiple times, i assure you Tesla will need to step up their quality game... tesla seats vs rivian seats is night and day
the inside of the tesla is such junk imho
interior in a rivian really feels like a high end german car

LOL thats exactly my point. If my range is realistically only 250 miles and I want to charge from 20-80% (50-200) that means my effective range is 150 miles....

I'd be more on board if the Rivian wasn't just shy of $70k (or more) for the base model.

Well....it's still morning so there's time...

But also have you seen them in person? Admittedly in photos I'm not as big of a fan, but when you see one IRL it totally changes my opinion. It's got a super wide stance, and I think the grille/headlights are pretty sweet.

And then you charge again. Stopping every couple of hours to get out and stretch and go to the bathroom or grab some food.

If you want to get a realistic estimate of the amount of time it would take you to road trip an EV check out ABetterRoutePlanner.com. Most of what you hear in the media is BS about some idiots that had to clue what they were doing and charged at Level 2 chargers

So right now, I stop to get out and stretch about every 250-300 miles. Thats about 3-4 hours of driving. filling my truck/car, stretch, use the rest room, get food takes no more than 15 minutes. I am literally doubling the time it takes me to get to a destination because of charging with the Rivian and the increased frequency to stop.

Using your logic, I couldnt visit my parents or inlaws in a single charge on a weekend. I would have to plan a multi-hour stop along the way, something I don't need to bother with atm.

If you have DC fast charging it's only 45-60 minutes to go from 20-80%. Between Colorado Springs and Moab (taking I70) there are 250 charging locations compatible with a Rivian. One hour long stop in Grand Junction each way at a DC fast charger and you're good for the trip. There's charging available in Moab as well but it is slower rates.

How did a 20-30 minute charge turn into “multi-hours”?! Where are you getting your info?

You couldnt make it all the way to grand junction, you'd have to recharge in Denver first, then stop again in grand junction, but you'd be pretty pressed to actually get to grand junction on a single charge from Denver, keep in mind you will burn a ton of energy up through vail pass

That's just poor planning. There is a RV park in Winnie that will let you charge but it's only a 50amp AC plug so about 25 miles per hour of range. If you planned out your drive a little better there are DC fast chargers about 25 miles away to both the east and west.

It’s ironical, everyone was saying the same thing about Tesla. Now they’re the most valuable automaker in the world in terms of market share.

Directly from Rivians website...multiple stops and multiple charges means multiple hours.

No where does Rivian advertise 20-30 minute charge for 80%
