Whats the SAFEST color?

Saftey is the most important factor to me, the Tacoma has excellent crash test results, but there is some debate what is the safest color?
I wanted the red or blue Tacoma cause I believe those two colors are the most visible to other drivers, I settled for the white.
White vehicles make up the highest crash numbers because there are more white vehicles out there and sold.
Gray and Silver are highly reflective and are hard to see by other drivers.
The best choice for being best visible is a red or bright yellow and these colors can stand out in more contrast compaired to other colors..
The color's visibility to other drivers can vary depending on the weather, time of day, sunlight, and the general environment. A white vehicle would be potontially less visible in snowy or foggy conditions I would think while a dark green may blend into sping-summer surroundings, blue can blend into a bright blue sky and dark colors can be less visible for other drivers to see at night.

My bottom line:
Gray and Silver: most unsafe colors
Red and Yellow: safest colors

My bottom line:

Colors mean squat. If people aren't going to see you they aren't going to see you. Don't drive like an idiot swerving in and out of traffic and you will be fine. Turn your lights on when it's foggy or dark and your camo truck will magically be visible to others.

I sound like an ass but some of your reasoning is crazy. Blue truck and blue skies?! Really.. What do you look at while driving..

 

Obviously color does mean something. A red Vehicle is going to catch your eye way more than a gray one. If they made a yellow Tacoma, that would be the most eyecatching color of all. That is why school buses are yellow, for safety.
Does this absolutely guarantee that someone is not going to cut you off? Of course not, but it does greatly increase your visibility.

But really, maybe you would want to add reflectors to the back of your truck, or make the brake lights flash a few times at first when you hit them?

People really don't pay attention no matter what you do.

Not really a good blanket statement. My wife was hit the same way at/near the same intersection in both our white Scion tC (small and difficult to see) and our lifted Tacoma Sport (bright red and large/noticeable from most any car).

So while some people in the right situations might notice a bright colored car....they might not be paying attention to anything at all or paying attention to the brighter colored car with the superman paint job in the other lane or whatever.

 

Don't forget electric kool aid green, and punch a hole in yer muffler...there's a truck around here that you can hear before you can see it, and once you can see it, you'll never forget it...mongo lift w/ a windowless camper shell...when fishing, we try to wear clothing that matches surrounding background, not that anyone really cares, but I think color can make a diff on a "normal" day...

 

I can agree that white & silver are less noticable. A foggy/rainy day....and a silver car in your blindspot can be missed with a quick look.

I personally hate silver & white colors for a vehicle! BORING!!! I'll never buy a vehicle for color for safety. If I'm that worried about safety & getting hit - I'll stay at home!!!

I heard that red cars are involved in more accidents. Not because of the color though. It's because of the personality of people who prefer red. Lol.

 

I also read that they get the most tickets, supposedly because cops see the red car speeding and assume the drivers are hot rod minded.

 

Red is not *that* safe. It's the first color the human eye cannot see at night.

Yes. Thus the red/amber lights of interiors in vehicles. Very easy on the eyes at night.

Cars with headlights on during the day have less chance of being in an accident.

I don't agree, I am in law enforement and the number 1 excuse is the driver didn't see the vehicle they just hit.
doesn't matter if the lights are on or not, drivers also plow down motorcycles they didn't see, and since 1978 all motorcycles are designed with their lights on all the time.
there is also a lot of blind, and color blind people behind the wheel, and the first thing they notice is color

 

People should be familiar with the blind spots of their vehicles. I had an 84 Thunderbird that, for me, had a blind spot when making a left hand turn from a stop. The inside rear view mirror blocked my view of cars when I checked right before turing. I knew this and always did the double check to the right. However more than once it was only the driving skill of the driver I pulled out in front of that saved the accident.

So you just confirmed what I just said. If they didn't see the vehicle, then the color makes no difference.

 

Paying ATTENTION would help. If you aren't paying attention, you aren't going to see the other vehicle. Period!!!

 

If you're asking what color the human eye sees best, it's green...what we would call "bright green" or like someone else said lime green.
