Did you ever take your Rivian up vail pass or done any significant mountain driving?

Yes, I live in Tahoe at 7500ft. I didn't take it up Vail specifically but Echo Summit, Spooner Summit, etc are my usual haunts. I never got mileage like you're inventing here.

I also own a Taycan fully electric and drive these routes regularly. The Taycan has a lower EPA rated mileage than the R1T and I never get anything like this.

Those route planners take average grade and elevation change into account. They're accurate.

and that is where I think Toyota missed the mark on the Tundra and especially the hybrid-only Sequoia. A PHEV on either of those would have been great. I doubt the 4th Gen Tacoma will have it since neither of the big boys do, but we can hope. The Rav4 Prime is such a great vehicle if you fall into driving mostly in the EV-only range. Toyota should know that! Even Jeep knows it and pulled the trigger on the 4xe Wrangler but that thing's only got a realistic 20mi of electric range and then ends up having worse overall MPGs than the base engine.

Also traffic effects all vehicles equally, unless there is an EV/HOV lane.

I have a R4P :p The new drivetrain on the crown should be perfect for a taco, though. Just needs a bigger battery pack.

What was your mileage up to vail from Denver, any pics or evidence or are you just "inventing" it?

gotta love TRD Pro owners who spend $50k with premium mark ups, only to swap wheels before they’re first car payment is due :pccoffee:

Yeah, so you get it. Can't believe they skipped it for the Tundra / Sequoia.

They didn't have a powertrain available yet. Plus the Tundra's system uses a 'normal' truck tranny.

If the taco goes with the crown powertrain (eAWD + HSD front) it'd be pretty crazy. 340 hp though.

I sold it so I can't pull up the numbers but this is well published, no need to invent anything like you're doing here. The route planner is accurate and you forcibly adding unnecessary stops to artificially inflate the numbers (while still failing to reach your initial ludicrous 32 hour number) is also unnecessary.

Here's an example of the absolute worst case mileage imaginable: completely off road with no pavement at all, on AT tires, steep grades, from 4,500ft to 11,500ft, etc. He still got 152 miles on a single charge at 1.13 miles per kWh. I'd wager the number of people who have done 152 miles 100% off road with no pavement on this forum is rounding close to 0.

:p I'd say the worst case imaginable would be if they were towing anything at all, that'd make that range drop like a rock.

I'm not actually adding stops (their website does it automatically) but its funny that you think so.

But damn that mileage is awful.

Yeah but they’ve had since 2007 to make one and had the same concept already out and about in the RAV4. I really want to talk to whoever passed on PHEV for the Tundra and ask them why.

Towing isn't as bad as you think it is, though the R1T is rated for over twice the Tacoma so at 11,000 pounds I imagine it's pretty bad. Car and Driver towed ~6000 pounds and dropped it to 1.75kWh which is a lot better than the 1.13m/kWh experienced off road. The lack of traction and big AT tires makes a lot bigger difference than you'd expect.

I literally cannot get a better route planner to produce a route with anything more than a single stop to charge on that CO->UT route. How are you getting it to tell you to charge every 70 miles?

Again, that mileage is pretty bad, except that it's 150 miles totally off road without any pavement and over 7000ft of elevation. It's nowhere near practical usage and I'm willing to bet you've never come close to 150 miles off road in a single trip in your TRD OR. ;)

You’re from Colorado? Maybe you could reach out to Teen Wolf Talon Sei and his Ex Navy SEAL buddy Mike with Last Line of Defense to do a gear review for us? I hear they love shilling products for free…:broccoli:

In my personal experience, which is at the expense of my brother with a Model Y, EV charging adds exponentially to drive times. One example is a drive that took me 5 hours in my Tacoma, took him 8 hours.

I'm not opposed to EVs, so I hope the tech improves quickly. I've seen China's NIO advertised ranges are way above everything available in the US. Not sure how legit those numbers are.

What do you mean by it's not as bad as we think when there are articles and youtube videos of it being pretty bad? Honestly thats the crux of this whole discussion, my original comment was targeting it's lack of towing range, then it kind of left turned into general range but really towing is the biggest issue.

    LOL, hard pass.

I meant that it's not as bad as you think it is when compared to off roading, which is worse. I wasn't saying it's good.

And no, your original comment was that your 6 hour drive takes 32 hours which even you yourself has proven to be incorrect.
