No one’s taking that heavy tank Rivian on a trail unless two San Francisco architects get lost on their way to the farmers’ market which is just some dude selling vegetables he bought at Costco that morning and peeled stickers off of them.

I thought at 5700 pounds my LC200 is a fat pig, but the Rivian is something else.

My sister lives over there. I made the mistake of thinking that Next Level Burger was a burger place that was upstairs, or some really next level quality beef. I was wrong on all accounts.

I'd expect the Rivian will go through two maybe three batteries while the Tacoma will still be humming along with its original engine.

    Rivian is butt ugly...

I bet that was a fun experience!

Besides the mpg, my second concern about off-road driving is having a breakdown. I drove the Rimrocker Trail two weeks ago from Moab to Montrose, CO with my Jeep TJ. The mpg was at worse half of normal running some in four-low 1st to 2nd gear. Awesome route at about 170 miles (148 was dirt), but in the middle my Jeep failed to start! I wasn't too remote, but no cell service. There were no codes and I quickly figured out it was a loose battery connector, probably from spirited driving. :)

A nephew also had an issue with his ride earlier on the trip. We happened to be on paved road, stopped, and right way other guys stopped and helped us out. It would be more interesting having a breakdown with something super high tech?

Here's a route I do every year in my tacoma. Per google maps it's 17h 10min but that's without any fuel stops or food. It usually takes us about 18.5-19hrs of actual drive time. In a Rivian I could do it in 21hrs. Cost of fuel based on my 14mpg average this last trip is around $405 based on $5 a gallon.

This trip would be totally doable in a Rivian and not hard at all. Cost for charging would be significantly less than fuel.

Also because of their “autopilot” and the charging stops, you’d feel better when you arrived.
