    It's a night and day difference, pulling a trailer with your other 3.5l motor, lol

    @rgaDawg
    Do you already own the RV or thinking about buying that size?

    We are renting a 19' Starcraft, pulls a little light. And I think I have the brake controller figured out - Tekonsha P3, externally mounts under dash, says it comes with cord for plug into 2020 Tacoma, but probably my 2021 is the same. Youtube videos show people going under the dash into the wiring to find the connector, but my 2021 has the connector mounted just under the left dash, ready to plug. So, just have to find a ground & mount the bracket.

    Thanks for this info. We will take 4 or 4 1/2 days to get there, no hurry. But, still wondering what kind of shifting I need to be doing. Do I put it in (D)rive, or use manual shifting? Also, the official Tacoma towing video shows them using the "ECT Pwr" engaged, yet everyone says - Don't use the overdrive. ECT pwr is supposed to keep in gear longer if pulling loads. But, I don't think my 2021 TRD off-road has an overdrive button anywhere. So, I'm supposed to use the "ECT Pwr" button while towing? Then shift to 5th before the transmission hits 6th. I'm just still confused on how to shift while towing.

    The more I try to learn about my truck, the more I see that it is already set up to tow (at least the TRD off-roads) - with what older posts are calling a "towing package" - it's already there, more engine cooling, 130 amp alternator, even tranny cooling. The receiver seems to be set up like a weight distribution system already. Even the brake controller connector is right under the dash, next to the tire reset button. So, I just need to figure out the shifting .. or to use the ECT Pwr or not.

    Keep it in S4. This will keep it out of overdrive

    You might want to do a trial run up into the hill country before making a trip out to Maine in one. WInd resistance and the hills kill the mpgs on the Tacoma's

    In the past we traveled a lot, since covid we haven't done much. I'm not sure y'alls overall game plan, but I would like to share this...

    I know the rental rates are not exactly cheap, and then expect to get about 11mpg, a slower travel time, then add the cost of the RV park, (additional time set up of RV and breakdown). For the very long distances, it has always made since for us to utilize cheaper means for overnight accommodations, and that's finding the off beaten path of the Airbnb rentals. That allowed us to travel faster, cheaper on fuel and no hassle of the RV and associated costs.

    I have aluminum 21' Camplite RV, queen bed with bunks, dual axle, dry weight 3,800lbs I could potentially rent it out, but your pretty new on the scene around here, but with a high enough deposit that could be a go.

    Agree, but often if I'm covering flat ground and already up to speed, OD is a go, but if it switches in and out too often, then it just sits in drive, no OD.

    You got that right. Once we get to Maine, we are parked for 8+ days.

    Yep, and added add a leaf to the rear end, tends to sag a little when loaded.
